Manitoba Provincial Electoral Districts
Provincial electoral divisions (also known as constituencies or ridings) in Manitoba are currently single-member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. The individual who is elected thereby becomes a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Electoral boundaries are reviewed every 10 years by the Manitoba Electoral Divisions Boundaries Commission. The current provincial electoral boundaries were established in December 2018 and went into effect for the 42nd general election, held on September 10, 2019. Manitoba today has 57 electoral divisions. Westman Region
The Westman Region (also known as Western Manitoba or simply Westman) is an informal geographic region of the Canadian province of Manitoba located in the southwestern corner of the province. Brandon is the largest urban centre in the Westman Region. Primary economic industries in the region include agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, education, petroleum, transportation, and tourism. Riding Mountain National Park and eight provincial parks are located within the Westman Region. Together with the Parkland Region to the north, Westman composes the broader Prairie Mountain health region, and is provided healthcare services by Prairie Mountain Health. Steinbach (electoral District)
Steinbach is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba that encompasses the city of Steinbach, the riding's namesake, and northeastern part of the Rural Municipality of Hanover. The current MLA is Kelvin Goertzen, who was first elected with almost 75% of the vote in 2003. Goertzen also briefly served as Premier of Manitoba in 2021. History It was created by redistribution in 1989, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1990. Originally a much larger riding in terms of geographical area, Steinbach has been redistributed three times (1999, 2011, and 2019) in response to the city of Steinbach's rapid population growth and is now among the smallest provincial ridings in terms of land area outside of Winnipeg. Springfield-Ritchot is a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of Manitoba that came into effect at the 2019 Manitoba general election. It contains the R.M. of Ritchot, Niverville and the west of the R.M. of Springfield. In 2019, it elected Ron Schuler to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. Selkirk (provincial Electoral District)
Selkirk is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1957 from part of St. Andrews, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1958. It is named after the city of Selkirk, which in turn was named for Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk, who set up the Red River Colony colonization project in 1811. Selkirk is bordered to the east by Lac Du Bonnet, to the south by Springfield, to the west by Gimli, and to the north by Lake Winnipeg. Most of the riding's population is located in the city of Selkirk. Other communities in the riding include Belair and Grand Marais, and there is a significant amount of agricultural land in the riding as well. The riding's population in 1996 was 19,409. Lakeside (electoral District)
Lakeside is a provincial electoral division in Manitoba, Canada. It is located to the immediate northwest of the city of Winnipeg. Traditionally a rural riding, Lakeside has become more urban in recent years (as a result of both electoral redistribution and changes in demography). All the same, agriculture accounted for 17 per cent of the riding's industry in 1999. The riding is bordered to the north by Interlake, to the west by Portage la Prairie, to the south by Morris and to the east by Gimli. It also borders the city of Winnipeg to the southeast. Lac du Bonnet is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1957, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1958. It is a relatively large constituency, located to the northeast of Winnipeg.
