Malerkotla district is a district in Punjab state of India. It was formed after the bifurcation of Sangrur district. Malerkotla district was carved out of Sangrur and became the 23rd district of Punjab on 02 June, 2021. District Malerkotla is divided into three subdivisions: Malerkotla, Amargarh and Ahmedgarh. History Malerkotla was a princely state from 1657 until 20 August 1948 when it became a part of Patiala and East Punjab States Union. It was merged with Punjab in 1956 and became a part of the Sangrur district. Administration Malerkotla district is in the state of Punjab in northern India. It is the 23rd district in the Indian state of Punjab. The district was carved out of Sangrur district on 14 May, 2021. 2011 Census Of India
The 2011 Census of India or the 15th Indian Census was conducted in two phases, house listing and population enumeration. The House listing phase began on 1 April 2010 and involved the collection of information about all buildings. The State of Malerkotla or Maler Kotla was a princely state in the Punjab region during the era of British India. The last Nawab of Maler Kotla signed the instrument of accession to join the Dominion of India on 20 August 1948. Its rulers belonged to a Pathan dynasty, and its capital was in Malerkotla. The state belonged to the Punjab States Agency. Ahmedgarh is a City and a municipal council the Indian state of Punjab. It is 18 km away from Malerkotla, the district headquarter, 25 km away from Ludhiana city.
