Macedonians (ethnic Group)
Macedonians ( mk, Македонци, Makedonci) are a nation and a South Slavs, South Slavic ethnic group native to the region of Macedonia (region), Macedonia in Southeast Europe. They speak Macedonian language, Macedonian, a South Slavic language. The large majority of Macedonians identify as Eastern Orthodox Christians, who speak a South Slavic language, and share a cultural and historical "Orthodox Byzantine–Slavic heritage" with their neighbours. About two-thirds of all ethnic Macedonians live in North Macedonia and there are also Macedonian diaspora, communities in a number of other countries. Stojan Hristov
Stoyan Christowe (also known as Stojan Hristoff) was an American author, journalist and noted Vermont political figure. Born in then Konomladi (then a part of the Ottoman Empire), he is best remembered as the author of six books written about the Balkans and as a Vermont legislator committed to promoting social justice and literacy. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia and was elected an honorary member of the Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences (MANU). Krste Misirkov
Krste Petkov Misirkov ( bg, Кръсте (Кръстьо) Петков Мисирков; mk, Крсте Петков Мисирков, ; 18 November 1874 – 26 July 1926) was a philologist, journalist, historian and ethnographer from the region of Macedonia. In the period between 1903 and 1905, he published a book and a scientific magazine in which he affirmed the existence of a Macedonian national identity separate from other Balkan nations, and attempted to codify a standard Macedonian language based on the central Western Macedonian dialects. A survey conducted in the Republic of Macedonia (now North Macedonia) found Misirkov to be "the most significant Macedonian of the 20th century". For his efforts to codify a standard Macedonian language, he is often considered "the founder of the modern Macedonian literary language". Stefan Markovski
Stefan Markovski (Macedonian: Стефан Марковски) is a contemporary Macedonian writer, screenwriter, poet, philosopher and translator. Biography Markovski was born in Gevgelija in 1990, where he finished his primary and secondary education. In 2009 he moved to Skopje, graduating on the Department of Comparative Literature and afterwards on the Institute of Philosophy at the State University in Skopje. In 2018 he obtained a MA in Screenwriting at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts with the feature film script ''My Name Is Freedom''. He is an editor-in-chief of the oldest Macedonian literary magazine, ''Sovremenost'', and is also an editor of the review of the Association of Writers' of Macedonia "Stožer", as well as the poetry collections Metric caravan. Vlado Maleski
Vlado Maleski ( mk, Владо Малески; 5 September 1919 – Struga, 23 September 1984) was a Yugoslav Macedonian writer, communist activist, publisher and revolutionary. He published several novels and short stories and was the author of the Macedonian national anthem "Denes nad Makedonija" and of the script for the first Macedonian movie, " Frosina". Biography Maleski completed his elementary schooling in Shkodra, Albania, and his secondary schooling in Bitola. He enrolled the University of Belgrade's Law School, but did not finish his studies because of the Second World War. During the war, he was an active participant in the National Liberation War of Macedonia. After the war, he became one of the most prominent writers in contemporary Macedonian. Blaže Koneski
Blaže Koneski ( mk, Блаже Конески; 19 December 1921 – 7 December 1993) was a Macedonian poet, writer, literary translator, and linguistic scholar. His major contribution was to the codification of standard Macedonian. He is the key figure who shaped Macedonian literature and intellectual life in the country however he has also been accused of serbianizing the Macedonian standard language. Biography Koneski was born in Nebregovo, in the then province of South Serbia, part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (current day North Macedonia). Aco Karamanov
Aco Karamanov ( mk, Ацо Караманов; bg, Александър Василев Караманов) (January 31, 1927 - October 7, 1944) was a Macedonian poet and partisan. In Bulgaria he is considered Bulgarian. Karamanov was born in Radoviš, then in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. Since the beginning of his education he exhibited affinity to writing, He started writing songs at the early age of 9 years. Between September 5, and October 7, 1944 Karamanov fought against the withdrawing Germans. This talented writer lived for only 17 years, but his human messages written in poems are left to testify for the war. He is considered one of the founders of contemporary Macedonian literature. Risto Kirjazovski
Risto Kirjazovski ( mk, Ристо Кирјазовски (6 January 1927 – 3 October 2002) was a Macedonian historian, scientist and publisher. He fought as a Partisan in the NOF, and also participated in the Greek Civil War. After 1949 he fled from Macedonia, Greece to SR Macedonia in Yugoslavia and worked on scientific research in the Archives of Macedonia and the Institute for National History in Skopje.
