Pehr Evind Svinhufvud af Qvalstad (; 15 December 1861 – 29 February 1944) was the third president of Finland from 1931 to 1937. Serving as a lawyer, judge, and politician in the Russian Grand Duchy of Finland, he played a major role in the movement for Finnish independence, he was one who presented the Declaration of Independence to the Parliament. In 1917–1918, Svinhufvud was the first Head of State of independent Finland, first as Chairman of the Senate of Finland, Senate and subsequently as Protector of State or Regent. He also served as Prime Minister of Finland, Prime Minister from 1930 to 1931. Taavetti (; Swedish: ''Taavetti'', also ''Davidstad'') is a village and administrative center of the Luumäki municipality in South Karelia, Finland. It has a population of 2,084. It is located along Highway 6 between Lappeenranta and Kouvola, and its center also runs on Highway 26 towards Hamina. The distance from Taavetti to the nearest city, Lappeenranta, is about . Taavetti has evolved around the Taavetti Fortress (''Taavetin linnoitus''). The fortress is part of a chain of fortresses built in the late 18th century to protect St. Petersburg. The village of Marttila at the crossroads of the main roads was once chosen as the location for the fortress, as Taavetti still is. Lappeenranta (; sv, Villmanstrand) is a city and municipality in the region of South Karelia, about from the Russian border and from the town of Vyborg (''Viipuri''). Ilkka Remes
Petri Pykälä (born 13 December 1962), commonly known by his pseudonym Ilkka Remes, is a Finnish author of thrillers for adults and for young adults. Remes was born in Luumäki. He has stated he uses a pseudonym because he does not want to be considered only a thriller writer, and wants to be able to write other genres of books in the future. Remes lives in Belgium with his wife and two children. He was awarded the '' Kalevi Jäntti Literature Award'' in 1997, the ''Clue of the Year Award'' from the Finnish Detective Novel Society in 1999 and the Olvi Foundation Literature Award in 1999. The Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja commented on Remes' book ''Ruttokellot'' on his homepage in January 2001. Southern Finland
Southern Finland ( fi, Etelä-Suomen lääni, sv, Södra Finlands län) was a province of Finland from 1997 to 2009. It bordered the provinces of Western Finland and Eastern Finland.
