Lorena is a German, English, Croatian, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish feminine given name with different origins. It can be used as an version of Lorraine or, alternately, as a Latin version of Lauren. As a Croatian, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish name, it is derived from the Latin Laurentius. As a German and English name, it is a modern form of the Germanic Chlothar (which is a blended form of Hlūdaz and Harjaz). As used in the United States, it may have come from the song title of a popular 1856 song by Rev. Henry D.L. Lorena is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. General Lorena is part of the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Paraíba e Litoral Norte. The population is 89,125 (2020 est.) in an area of 414.16 km2. The elevation is 524 m, after the political emancipation of Canas, its last district. The city was originated when a farm was constructed at the end of the 17th century. It became a parish in 1718, a municipality in 1788 and is a city since 1856. The city is now the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lorena. Its main business areas are industry, services and agro-business. Maria Margarida de Lorena, Duchess of Abrantes (2 February 1713 – 1780) was the daughter of Dom Rodrigo de Mello (1688–1713), second child of Nuno Álvares Pereira de Melo, 1st Duke of Cadaval and of Ana Maria Catarina Henriqueta de Lorena, 1st Duchess of Abrantes. Biography On 22 December 1726, Maria Margarida married uncle, Joaquim Francisco de Sá Almeida e Menezes, 2nd Marquis of Abrantes (her mother's younger brother), who died in 1756. Life The eldest daughter of Rodrigo Anes de Sá Almeida e Menezes, 1st Marquis of Abrantes and 7th Count of Penaguião, she adopted the surname "de Lorena" after a maternal great-grandfather, François-Louis de Lorraine. Masonic, California
Masonic (formerly Lorena) is a ghost town located about northeast of Bridgeport, Mono County, California, USA. The town consists of an upper, middle, and lower town; most of the few ruins remaining are in the middle town. Gold was first discovered in the 1860s, but production ceased near the start of the 20th century. The town's population peaked at about 1,000. History The town was founded by Freemasons, hence its name. Middle Town, the largest of the three towns, had a post office, boarding house, and a general store. It also housed the offices of the town's newspaper: ''The Masonic Pioneer''. The Lorena post office opened in 1905, changed its name to Masonic in 1906, closed in 1912, re-opened in 1913 and closed for good in 1927. Masonic's population in 1906 was about 500.
