United Kingdom
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain, is a country in Europe, off the north-western coast of the continental mainland. It comprises England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom includes the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland, and many smaller islands within the British Isles. Northern Ireland shares a land border with the Republic of Ireland; otherwise, the United Kingdom is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel, the Celtic Sea and the Irish Sea. The total area of the United Kingdom is , with an estimated 2020 population of more than 67 million people. The United Kingdom has evolved from a series of annexations, unions and separations of constituent countries over several hundred years. The Treaty of Union between the Kingdom of England (which included Wales, annexed in 1542) and the Kingdom of Scotland in 170 ...

List Of Power Stations In Northern Ireland
This is a list of electricity-generating power stations in Northern Ireland, sorted by type and name, with installed capacity (May 2011). Note that the Digest of United Kingdom energy statistics (DUKES) maintains a comprehensive list of United Kingdom power stations, accessible through the Department of Energy and Climate Changebr>here. A red background denotes a power station that is no longer operational. List Joint venture with Scottish and Southern Energy Tidal Power Northern Ireland was home to the world's first commercially viable tidal stream generator. Trials were begun in Scotland then in England, before Marine Current Turbines installed the thousand-tonne SeaGen turbine at the mouth of Strangford Lough. The lough was chosen because it has one of the fastest tidal flows in the world. The installation went live and was connected to the grid in mid-December, 2008, injecting an extra 1.2 megawatts of electricity. The turbine is scheduled to produce power for five years, ...

List Of Power Stations In Scotland
This list of power stations in Scotland includes current and former electricity-generating power stations in Scotland, sorted by type. Scotland is a net exporter of electricity and has a generating capacity of over 10 GW. None of this is generated by conventional oil- or gas-burning power stations, instead using one large gas turbine power station and two large nuclear power stations, as well as several hydro-electric schemes in the Highlands comprising over 80 generating stations with a combined capacity of 1.4GW. Scotland also has an increasing number of wind farms, due to the large proportion of upland areas. As of July 2010, there were 100 operating wind farms in Scotland with a combined capacity of 8GW; and a further 96 projects under construction or consented, with capacity of 2GW. A number of other power plants include an experimental wave power generator on Islay, and Steven's Croft near Lockerbie, the UK's largest wood-fired biomass power station. Since 2016 no coal fired ...

List Of Power Stations In The British Crown Dependencies
This is a list of current and former electricity-generating power stations in the British Crown Dependencies. The Crown Dependencies are the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man. They are British Islands but are not part of the United Kingdom. In addition to the generation of electricity at operational stations, there are several sub-sea cables that connect to these power stations to the United Kingdom and France. They include the Isle of Man to England Interconnector and the Channel Islands Electricity Grid. List Of Active Coal Fired Power Stations In The United Kingdom
There are currently three active coal-fired power stations operating in the United Kingdom. They have a total generating capacity of 3.52GW. Phase-out of coal in the United Kingdom In November 2015, the UK Government announced that all the remaining fourteen coal-fired power stations would be closed by 2025. In November 2017 the UK Government co-founded the Powering Past Coal Alliance. In June 2021, the government said it would end coal power by October 2024. Ironbridge ceased operations in late 2015. In 2016, three power stations closed at Rugeley, Ferrybridge and Longannet. Eggborough closed in 2018 and was granted consent to convert into a gas fired power station. Lynemouth power station converted to biomass in 2018 and Uskmouth is being converted to an energy from waste plant. Cottam and Aberthaw shut down operations in 2019, Fiddlers Ferry closed in 2020 and Drax stopped burning coal in March 2021. The United Kingdom had continuously burned coal for the generation of ...

List Of Active Gas Fired Power Stations In The United Kingdom
There are currently 32 active gas fired combined cycle power plants operating in the United Kingdom, which have a total generating capacity of 28.0 GW. Decline of gas for power in the United Kingdom In 2016 gas fired power stations generated a total of 127 TWh of electricity. Generation has dropped to 119 TWh in 2017, 115 TWh in 2018, 114 TWh in 2019 and 95 TWh in 2020. The decline is largely due to the increase in renewable sources outweighing the decline of coal, and an overall reduction in demand. List Of Onshore Wind Farms In The United Kingdom
This is a list of some onshore wind farms (more than 1 turbine) in the UK. This information is gathered from multiple Internet sources, primarily the UK Wind Energy Database from RenewableUK (formerly BWEA) and The Wind Power's database. The name of the wind farm is the name used by the energy company when referring to the farm and is usually related to the name of the physical location, e.g. hill, moor, fell, down etc. or the name of the agricultural farm for the smaller installations on property owned by farmers. The "wind farm" part is implied and hence removed for clarity in most cases. Listings here are restricted to wind farms with 12 turbines or more; for a more comprehensive list, please see the individual country articles. The name of the wind farm is the name used by the energy company when referring to the farm; it is usually related to the name of the nearest town on shore. In October 2022 the (nameplate) capacity of offshore wind farms in operation was approximately 13GW, with a further 4GW under construction. Contracts to subsidize a further 10GW (one wind farm is only partially contracted) have been awarded by the UK Government. If all the proposed wind farms are developed, then in the 2030s the United Kingdom would have a (nameplate) capacity of 73GW. __TOC__ Operational offshore wind farms In October 2022, there were offshore wind farms consisting of 2,595 turbines with a combined capacity of 13,628 Megawatts.
