Larry Young (musician)
Larry Young (also known as Khalid Yasin ''Abdul Aziz October 7, 1940 – March 30, 1978) was an American jazz organist and occasional pianist. Young's early work was strongly influenced by the soul jazz of Jimmy Smith, but he later pioneered a more experimental, modal approach to the Hammond B-3. Biography Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, United States, Young attended Newark Arts High School, where he began performing with a vocal group and a jazz band. Young played with various R&B bands in the 1950s, before gaining jazz experience with Jimmy Forrest, Lou Donaldson, Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley and Tommy Turrentine. Recording as a leader for Prestige from 1960, Young made a number of soul jazz discs, '' Testifying'', ''Young Blues'' and '' Groove Street''. Larry Eugene Young (born February 6, 1954) is a former umpire in Major League Baseball. After beginning his career in the American League in 1983, he worked throughout both leagues from 2000 until his retirement following the 2007 season. He wore uniform number 28. Career Young umpired in the World Series in 1996 and 2003, and also in the American League Championship Series in 1992, 1998 and 2002. He officiated in two All-Star Games (1991, 2003), and in six Division Series (1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004); he was crew chief for the 2004 ALDS between the Anaheim Angels and Boston Red Sox. , Young is a supervisor of MLB umpires. Notable games On August 22, 1989, Young called Nolan Ryan's 5,000th career strikeout against Rickey Henderson. Larry Young (racewalker)
Lawrence Dean "Larry" Young (born February 10, 1943) is an American racewalker. He had his best results in the 50 km distance, winning bronze medals at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics and gold medals at the 1967 and 1971 Pan American Games. Young is the only American to ever win a medal in long distance racewalking. Young graduated from Columbia College (Missouri), where he attended on the only racewalking scholarship given in the United States. Young is an accomplished sculptor who has placed over 50 monumental outdoor sculptures nationally and abroad. Most of his work has been in bronze, but he also works with stainless steel, marble, and other materials. Deathlok
Deathlok (also referred to as Deathlok the Demolisher) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He first appeared in ''Astonishing Tales'' #25 (Aug. 1974), created by Rich Buckler. At least three subsequent Marvel characters have used the "Deathlok" identity since then. A recurring theme among these characters is that a dead human has been reanimated with cybernetic technology. "Deathlok technology" has also been used thematically by Marvel writers in other stories. Larry Young (born November 25, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland) is a former member of the Maryland Senate from 1988 to 1998, representing Baltimore's 44th district. He was expelled from the Senate in 1998 over ethics charges, but later acquitted at his own trial. Background Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 25, 1949, Young attended Baltimore City public schools. Career Legislature Young was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1975 to 1988, representing District 38 (Baltimore City). He was Chair of the Environmental Matters Committee, 1983–87 (member, 1975–83) and Chair of the Baltimore City Delegation, 1987–88. In June 1988 Young sought to become chairman of The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, a position that is determined by a vote of African-Americans serving in the Maryland General Assembly.
