Angela Lansbury
Dame Angela Brigid Lansbury (October 16, 1925 – October 11, 2022) was an Irish-British and American film, stage, and television actress. Her career spanned eight decades, much of it in the United States, and her work received a great deal of international attention. At the time of her death, she was one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema. Lansbury received many accolades throughout her career, including six Tony Awards (including a Lifetime Achievement Award), six Golden Globe Awards, a Laurence Olivier Award, and the Academy Honorary Award, in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards, eighteen Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Grammy Award. William Bruce Mageean Lansbury (12 January 1930 – 13 February 2017) was a British-born Irish-American television producer, television writer and screenwriter. His career spanned over 30 years, from the 1960s to the 1990s, and included work on a number of American television series. Personal life Born in London in 1930, Lansbury was the son of Belfast-born actress Moyna Macgill and Edgar Lansbury, a British politician and businessman, and grandson of future Labour Party leader George Lansbury. He was the younger brother of actress Angela Lansbury and the twin brother of theatre, film, and television producer Edgar Lansbury. Both brothers became United States citizens in 1954. Coral Magnolia Lansbury (14 October 1929 – 3 April 1991) was an Australian-born feminist writer and academic. Working in the United States from 1969 until her death, she became Distinguished Professor of English and Dean of Graduate Studies at Rutgers University. A former child actor and scriptwriter, Lansbury was the author of several works of fiction and non-fiction. The latter included ''The Reasonable Man: Trollope's Legal Fiction'' (1970), ''Elizabeth Gaskell: The Novel of Social Crisis'' (1975), and ''The Old Brown Dog: Women, Workers, and Vivisection in Edwardian England'' (1985). George Lansbury
George Lansbury (22 February 1859 – 7 May 1940) was a British politician and social reformer who led the Labour Party from 1932 to 1935. Apart from a brief period of ministerial office during the Labour government of 1929–31, he spent his political life campaigning against established authority and vested interests, his main causes being the promotion of social justice, women's rights, and world disarmament. Originally a radical Liberal, Lansbury became a socialist in the early 1890s, and thereafter served his local community in the East End of London in numerous elective offices. His activities were underpinned by his Christian beliefs which, except for a short period of doubt, sustained him through his life. Elected to the UK Parliament in 1910, he resigned his seat in 1912 to campaign for women's suffrage, and was briefly imprisoned after publicly supporting militant action. Henri George Lansbury (born 12 October 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Championship side Luton Town. He previously played for Arsenal, where he ascended from the club's academy. Minnie Lansbury née Minnie Glassman (1889 – 1 January 1922) was an English leading suffragette and an alderman on the first Labour-led council in the Metropolitan Borough of Poplar, England. Biography Minnie was the daughter of Annie and Isaac Glassman, a coal merchant. Her parents were Jewish immigrants. She was the first wife (married 1914) of Edgar Lansbury, son of George Lansbury, mayor of Poplar and later leader of the Labour Party. After Minnie's death, Edgar married actress Moyna Macgill and became the father of actor Angela Lansbury, Bruce Lansbury and Edgar Lansbury Jr. Minnie Lansbury became a teacher, and joined the East London Federation of Suffragettes in 1915. Lansbury Estate
The Lansbury Estate is a large, historic council housing estate in Poplar and Bromley-by-Bow in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is named after George Lansbury, a Poplar councillor and Labour Party MP. History Lansbury Estate is one of the largest such estates in London. It occupies an area bounded by the East India Dock Road to the south, the Docklands Light Railway to the east and the Limehouse Cut canal to the north-west. Layout of the estate, built on a site badly damaged by bombing during the Second World War, began in 1949 to a design by London County Council planners led by Arthur Ling and Percy Johnson-Marshall. Construction of the estate started shortly before 1951 as the Live Architecture Exhibition for the Festival of Britain, with Frederick Gibberd's Chrisp Street Market area and the Trinity Independent Chapel.
