LSU Tigers Women's Beach Volleyball
The LSU Tigers women's beach volleyball team represents Louisiana State University in the sport of beach volleyball. The Tigers compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA), and play their home matches at the new on-campus LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Russell Brock (volleyball)
Russell Brock is the head coach of the LSU Tigers women's beach volleyball team. Coaching career Brock began his college coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach for the Rice Owls women's indoor volleyball team in 2006. Starting in 2009, Brock became a full-time assistant coach for the Rice women's indoor volleyball team. In 2014, Brock became associate head coach for the LSU Tigers women's beach volleyball team under head coach Fran Flory. After the 2016 season, Flory resigned as beach volleyball coach to continue to focus on her duties as LSU Tigers women's volleyball head coach. Brock was then promoted from associate head coach to head coach of the LSU women's beach volleyball team beginning with the 2017 season. Russell made the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship tournament in each his first three seasons as LSU beach head coach from 2017 to 2019. 2017 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship
The ''2017 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship'' was the second annual tournament deciding the NCAA championship of beach volleyball, which competition is open to women only. It took place May 5-7 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It was a double elimination tournament, with a single championship match. The USC Trojans won their second consecutive national title, defeating the Pepperdine Waves 3-2 in the championship match. Qualification The tournament is open to teams from Divisions I, II, and III. The top three teams each in the East and West Regions will qualify automatically, and two additional teams will be selected at large. Selections were announced on April 30 on NCAA.com. Bracket Broadcast As in 2016, the tournament was streamed on NCAA.com and broadcast on TruTV and TBS. List Of NCAA Women's Beach Volleyball Programs
These collegiate women's beach volleyball teams compete as members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Currently, 93 college athletic programs sponsor the sport, with one more to do so in a future season. The majority of the participating programs are members of Division I, though some members of divisions II and III also compete. Unlike in most sports for which the NCAA holds championships, one beach volleyball championship is held, made open to members of all three divisions. Current teams As of the 2023 season, these schools sponsor a beach volleyball team that is recognized by the NCAA. All institutions on this list are located within the United States. The 2019 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship was the fourth annual tournament deciding the NCAA champions for the 2019 collegiate beach volleyball season. It took place May 3–5 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and was hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It was a double elimination tournament, with a single championship match. The Bruins won their second championship in a row by defeating Southern Cal 3–0 in the championship match on May 5, 2019. Qualification The tournament was open to teams from Divisions I, II, and III. Fran Flory
Fran Flory (born April 30, c. 1962) is an American retired head coach of the LSU Tigers women's indoor volleyball team and former head coach of the LSU Tigers women's beach volleyball team. Coaching career Flory is the former women's volleyball head coach at the University of Kentucky, Southeastern Louisiana University and Wittenberg University. She is first in all-time SEC wins and all-time wins at LSU, ahead of her predecessor, Scott Luster, who won 308 games in 13 years. Her LSU teams have captured seven consecutive SEC Western Division championships (2005–2011) as well as the 2009 SEC championship. Flory began her coaching career as head coach at Wittenberg University, where she coached for one season (posting a record of 11–21) in 1986. In 1987, she became an assistant coach at Texas A&M. Coastal Collegiate Sports Association
The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association is an NCAA Division I college athletic conference. Established in 2008, the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) was originally developed by four regional Division I conferences — the ASUN Conference, Big South Conference, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and the Southern Conference — to create a centralized home for their members with swimming and diving programs. In October 2015, the CCSA added the newly recognized NCAA sport of beach volleyball and rebranded itself the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association.
