Kongsberg Idrettforening is a Norwegian sports club from Kongsberg, founded in 1899. It has sections for athletics, gymnastics, alpine skiing, ski jumping, cross country skiing, telemark skiing, snowboarding, speed skating, ice hockey, football, and cycling. It is best known for its ski jumpers, including Sigmund Ruud, Birger Ruud, Asbjørn Ruud, Hans Beck, Hilmar Myhra, Petter Hugsted and Arnholdt Kongsgård. Snowboarder Stine Brun Kjeldaas also represented Kongsberg IF. Its first national athletics team member was sprinter Erik Brofoss, who later served as Government Minister and as director in the International Monetary Fund system. Javelin thrower Bjørn Grimnes and decathlete Trond Skramstad, both former Olympic competitors, also represented Kongsberg IF. Asbjørn Ruud
Asbjørn Ruud (6 October 1919 – 26 March 1989) was a Norwegian ski jumper. Together with his brothers Birger and Sigmund he dominated international ski jumping in the 1930s. Ruud won a gold medal at the 1938 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. The Norwegian Third Division, also called 3. divisjon, is the fourth highest division of the men's football league in Norway. Like the rest of the Norwegian football league system, the season runs from spring to autumn, running approximately from April to October. Trond Skramstad
Trond Skramstad (born 6 December 1960) is a Norwegian decathlete. He represented Kongsberg IF. Skramstad became Norwegian decathlon champion in 1983, 1985 and 1986. His personal best in decathlon is 8097 points, achieved in June 1984 in Emmitsburg aMount St. Mary's University. Bjørn Grimnes
Bjørn Grimnes (born 24 September 1950) is a former javelin thrower from Norway. He represented Kongsberg IF. At the 1972 Summer Olympics, he finished fifth in the javelin final with a throw of 83.08 metres. At the 1976 Summer Olympics, he finished fourteenth with 74.88 m. Erik Brofoss
Erik Brofoss (21 June 1908 – 7 May 1979) was a Norwegian economist and politician for the Labour Party. Brofoss was born in Kongsberg. In his younger days he was an athlete who competed national level in the 100 metres. He represented Kongsberg IF, and won a silver medal at the Norwegian championships in 1928. His career best time in 100 m was 10.8 seconds, achieved in August 1931 in Kongsberg. He had 6.96 metres in the long jump, achieved in July 1928 at Bislett stadion. He became Minister of Finance in 1945 and stayed in this position until 1947. He then helped found the Ministry of Trade and Shipping and headed it from 1947 to 1954. Arnholdt Kongsgård (23 November 1914 – 22 January 1991) was a Norwegian ski jumper who competed before World War II. He won a ski jumping bronze medal at the 1939 World Ski Championships in Zakopane.
