Chiyotaikai Ryūji
Chiyotaikai Ryūji (born April 29, 1976 as Ryūji Hiroshima in Chitose, Hokkaidō), is a Japanese former sumo wrestler. He made his professional debut in 1992 and reached the top ''makuuchi'' division in 1997. He held the second highest rank of '' ōzeki'' or champion for 65 consecutive tournaments from 1999 until 2009, making him the longest serving ''ōzeki'' in the modern era. He won three top division ''yūshō'' or tournament championships, and was a runner-up on seven other occasions. However, he also held the dubious record of being in danger of demotion from ''ōzeki'' fourteen times. He wrestled for Kokonoe stable until his retirement in January 2010 at the age of 33. Kokonoe Station
is a passenger railway station in the city of Tateyama, Chiba, Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, operated by the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Lines Kokonoe Station is served by the Uchibo Line, and is located 91.7 km from the starting point of the line at Soga Station. Kokonoe, Ōita
is a small town located in Kusu District, Ōita Prefecture, Japan. It promotes its nine onsen, which are occasionally closed due to flooding; it is also the summer headquarters of Labo Camp Kujū, part of the LABO language program. Kokonoe consists mainly of farms, hot springs, and countryside tourist attractions. As of March 2017, the town has an estimated population of 9,804 and the density of 36 persons per km². is a stable of sumo wrestlers, one of the Takasago group of stables. It was formed in 1967 and until 2021 was located in Ishiwara, Sumida, Tokyo. As of November 2022 it had 27 sumo wrestlers, four of whom are of ''sekitori'' rank. It is the most successful stable in terms of total ''yūshō'' won by its wrestlers, with 52. History Former ''yokozuna'' Chiyonoyama of Dewanoumi stable had wanted to succeed to the Dewanoumi name, but the then Dewanoumi stablemaster (former wrestler Dewanohana) had already decided to pass the name to former ''yokozuna'' Sadanoyama. Accordingly, in January 1967, he set up his own stable, taking with him, amongst others, then '' ōzeki'' Kitanofuji and attaching the new stable to the Takasago group of stables.
