Karrinyup, Western Australia
Karrinyup is a suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, and is located 12 km north of Perth's central business district. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. History The name Karrinyup was originally derived from the word ''Careniup'', a Noongar name for a nearby swamp, an Aboriginal word apparently meaning "the place where bush kangaroos graze". It may also mean "the place where spiders are". In the 1840s, Samuel Moore took up a grant of in the northern part of the suburb. Moore's grant, Swan Location 92 was surveyed by P Chauncey in 1844 and Chauncey recorded a large swamp just to the east of Karrinyup as Careniup Swamp. In 1929, the foundation committee developing the Lake Karrinyup Country Club golf course opted to change the spelling. Transperth
Transperth is the brand name of the public transport system serving the city and suburban areas of Perth, the state capital of Western Australia. Karrinyup Shopping Centre
Karrinyup Shopping Centre is a shopping centre built in 1973 in Karrinyup, a suburb of Perth. After an $800 million redevelopment, the centre is one of the largest shopping centres in Western Australia. Centre history Prior to the current centre being built, a smaller Karrinyup Shopping Centre was constructed in 1964 on a corner site. This was built as the precursor to a larger centre expected to be constructed in the future. The original centre was constructed by LJ Wallis of Osborne Park and owned by Karrinyup Investments of Scarborough. Valued at £12,500 (1964), it consisted of a grocer, greengrocer, deli, butcher, chemist, hairdresser, draper, news agent, post office, bank agency, and parking for 100 cars. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. West Coast Highway, Perth
West Coast Highway is an arterial coastal highway located in the western and inner northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. It is part of State Route 71, and also Tourist Drive 204 in various coastal parts. The highway commences from the end of Curtin Avenue at Swanbourne and heads north, via the SAS Campbell Barracks and rifle range, to City Beach, Scarborough and Trigg, terminating at the Karrinyup Road intersection, where it becomes Marmion Avenue. Marmion Avenue
Marmion Avenue is a arterial road in the northern coastal suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, linking Trigg in the south with Yanchep in the north. It forms part of State Route 71 along with West Coast Highway, which it joins onto at its southern terminus. Route Description Marmion Avenue is part of State Route 71, from the southern terminus to Hester Avenue, continuing on from West Coast Highway. It commences in Trigg, traveling generally parallel with the Indian Ocean coastline, and the other north-south arterials Mitchell Freeway and Wanneroo Road, through mostly residential areas and some undeveloped land north of Currambine, and terminates in Yanchep. Reid Highway
Reid Highway is a east-west highway and partial freeway in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, linking North Beach with Middle Swan. As part of State Route 3, it forms half of Perth's outer ring road along with Roe Highway, which it joins onto at its eastern terminus. The highway has many different speed limits and road conditions along its length, but is predominantly a four-lane dual carriageway with a speed limit. Stirling is a suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, about 10 km north of Perth's central business district (CBD) along the Mitchell Freeway. Its local government area is the City of Stirling, whose council offices and administration centre are located in the southwest of the mostly residential suburb. Mitchell Freeway
The Mitchell Freeway is a freeway in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, linking central Perth with the city of Joondalup. It is the northern section of State Route 2, which continues south as Kwinana Freeway and Forrest Highway. Along its length are interchanges with several major roads, including the Graham Farmer Freeway and Reid Highway. Wanneroo Road
Wanneroo Road is a arterial highway in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia linking Joondanna and Yokine in the south with Wanneroo and Yanchep in the north. As part of State Route 60, it begins from Charles Street in the inner city and becomes Indian Ocean Drive up to Dongara. Originally a narrow and often country road with a single lane in each direction it has been periodically widened and (particularly north of Wanneroo) straightened. Lake Karrinyup Country Club is a private golf club located in Karrinyup, Western Australia. The golf club consists of an 18-hole championship golf course, and a 9-hole "short course". The championship layout at Lake Karrinyup was founded in 1928, designed by Alex Russell who was the Australian partner of the famed golf course architect, Alister MacKenzie.
