Ju (city)
Ju () was an ancient Chinese city that existed during the Warring States period, and was located in what is today Ju County, Rizhao, Rizhao Prefecture, Shandong. The Ju (state), State of Ju was originally a vassal state of the Zhou Dynasty during the Spring and Autumn period. The state eventually fell to the State of Qi, and became a city of Qi. In 284 BC, the State of Yan attacked the State of Qi with forces commanded by Yue Yi, and managed to corner Qi within the city of Ju, the state's final stronghold. Although Qi lost a significant portion of territory, they were able to successfully counterattack against Yan under the leadership of Tian Dan and retake its lost territory within five years. Liu Xie
Liu Xie (, ca. 465–522), courtesy name Yanhe (), was a Chinese monk, politician, and writer. He was the author of China's greatest work of literary aesthetics, ''The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons'' (文心雕龍). His biography is included in the ''Liangshu''. Life A native of today's Zhenjiang, Liu's traced his ancestry to Shandong. He was orphaned in his youth and chose not to marry, either because of poverty or conviction (or both). Liu studied Buddhism with Sengyou and helped edit sutras at the Dinglin Monastery () until his death during the Liang Dynasty. It was during his time editing Buddhist scriptures that he wrote his ''The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons.''
