Iranian Academy Of Medical Sciences
The Academy of Medical Sciences of Iran ( fa, فرهنگستان علوم پزشکی جمهوری اسلامی ایران) was formally inaugurated in the winter of 1990. It had received its mandate from the High Council of Cultural Revolution and Legislature of the Islamic Republic of Iran two years earlier and its existence had been foreseen in the 1986 Charter of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. It is one of the four academies of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The other three are: Academy of Sciences of Iran, Iranian Academy of the Arts and Academy of Persian Language and Literature. Organization The Academy consists of the president of the country as the director of the academy, a general assembly, the president of the academy (currently Iradj Fazel), a vice-president for research (currently Reza Malekzadeh), a scientific council, and a secretary. The Cultural Revolution (1980–1983; fa, انقلاب فرهنگی: Enqelābe Farhangi) was a period following the Iranian Revolution, when the academia of Iran was purged of Western and non-Islamic influences (including traditionalist unpolitical Islamic doctrines) to align them with the revolutionary and political Islam. The cultural revolution sometimes involved violence in taking over the university campuses. The Iranian Academy of Arts (IAA) ( fa, فرهنگستان هنر ایران; formally Academy of Arts of the Islamic Republic of Iran) was established in March 2000. Iradj Fazel
Iradj Fazel ( fa, ایرج فاضل, also romanized as "Īraj Fāżel"; born 24 April 1939) is a prominent Iranian surgeon and academic. He was the president of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences for 19 years, until 2010. In the aftermath of the 2009 Iranian presidential election, he wrote a public letter, protesting the way Iranian youth were being treated. Subsequently, he was removed as the president of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences by President Ahmadinejad. Fazel studied Medicine at University of Tehran and pursued his studies in the United States. He specialized in organ transplantation. Reza Malekzadeh
Reza Malekzadeh ( fa, رضا ملک‌زاده; born 1952 in Kazerun, Fars province, Iran) is an Iranian medical scientist and gastroenterologist. Career Malekzadeh studied medicine at Shiraz University. He continued his studies to become specialized in Internal Medicine in Shiraz University where he did as well his fellowship in gastroenterology. In 1985, he joined the department of gastroenterology at Free Royal Hospital in London.
