Indonesia–Israel Relations
Israel and Indonesia have no formal diplomatic ties, although they maintain quiet trade, tourism and security contacts. In 2012, Indonesia spoke of upgrading relations with Israel and opening a consulate in Ramallah, but this agreement was never implemented. According to a 2017 BBC World Service Poll, 64% of Indonesians viewed Israel's influence negatively, compared to only 9% expressing a positive view. Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, brushed aside Israeli overtures and eventually adopted a strong pro-Arab policy as part of his anti-colonialist worldview. Israel (; he, יִשְׂרָאֵל, ; ar, إِسْرَائِيل, ), officially the State of Israel ( he, מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל, label=none, translit=Medīnat Yīsrāʾēl; ), is a country in Western Asia. It is situated on the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern shore of the Red Sea, and shares borders with Lebanon to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan to the east, and Egypt to the southwest.
