Imogen (given Name)
Imogen (), or Imogene (), is a female given name of uncertain etymology. Origin It is possible that the name Imogen may have originated as an accidental or deliberate misspelling of the name Innogen, itself a possibly common Irish Gaelic name in the past, from the word 'inghean' meaning "maiden" or "girl", or a British Celtic name derived from the Latin . Innogen is known as the name of a legendary British queen and was supposedly wife to King Brutus of Troy, Brutus and mother of Locrinus, Albanactus and Camber (legendary king), Camber. The form Innogen is rare. Another theory is that it is derived from Greek, meaning "beloved child". Imogen was the name of a politically influential sister of Rivallon I of Dol, a contemporary and ally of William the Conqueror during the Breton-Norman War. Popularity In England and Wales; it was the 34th most popular baby girl name in 2014, whilst in Australia, Imogen was the 35th most popular name for baby girls from 2011–2013. It was ranked 86 ...

Imogen (novel)
''Imogen'' is a 1978 romance novel by Jilly Cooper. The plot follows a young woman, Imogen, as she is invited on a summer holiday to the French Riviera by her love interest, a professional tennis player called Nicky Beresford. On holiday, Imogen falls in love with someone else, which is ultimately reciprocated. It is the sixth novel in Cooper's romance series, although reviewers were mostly disappointed in the characterisation of Imogen as "spineless" and having little development in the novel. Plot The story follows librarian Imogen Brocklehurst, whose claustrophobic upbringing by her vicar father in a Yorkshire village means she has had little experience of relationships or sex. She meets celebrity tennis player Nicky Beresford at a local match, who pursues her. He ultimately invites her on holiday to the French Riviera with his friends Matt and Cable, so that he can finally have sex with her. Imogen arrives on holiday with second-hand clothes and an unfashionable haircut, w ...

Imogen (Cymbeline)
Imogen (also spelled Innogen) is the daughter of Cunobelinus, King Cymbeline in William Shakespeare, Shakespeare's play ''Cymbeline''. She was described by William Hazlitt as "perhaps the most tender and the most wikt:artless, artless" of all Women in Shakespeare's works, Shakespeare's women. Name Academic consensus suggests that Shakespeare named the character Innogen, and the spelling "Imogen" is an error which arose when the manuscripts were first committed to print. Shakespeare probably took the name from the Matter of Britain character Innogen as found in ''Holinshed's Chronicles'' (1577), and had used the name once before for Ghost character#Innogen (Much Ado About Nothing), a non-speaking 'ghost character' in early editions of ''Much Ado About Nothing'' (1600), as the wife of the character Much Ado About Nothing#Characters, Leonato (Imogen in ''Cymbeline'' is paired with a character with the similar epithet "Leonatus"). An early description of ''Cymbeline'' by Simon Forman ...
