Horror Conventions
Horror conventions are gatherings of the community of fans of various forms of horror including horror cinema, goth lifestyle, and occasionally science fiction and fantasy. Historically the focus has been on the cinematic form rather than literature and art, but this has broadened to include all forms in recent years. People in attendance at a horror convention are traditionally known as ''members'' of the convention; invited celebrities including film directors and stars are commonly known as ''guests'' of the convention, though many professionals including directors will simply attend as members. Fantastic Fest
Fantastic Fest is an annual film festival in Austin, Texas. It was founded in 2005 by Tim League of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Alamo Drafthouse, Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News, Paul Alvarado-Dykstra, and Tim McCanlies, writer of ''The Iron Giant'' and ''Secondhand Lions''. Texas Frightmare Weekend
Texas Frightmare Weekend is a horror-oriented for-profit media event held annually in the Dallas, Texas, area. The weekend is a way for fans of the horror genre to connect with fellow horror lovers, meet guests that work in the genre, discover new films, and buy merchandise. Event information Texas Frightmare Weekend began in 2006. The event was held at the Hyatt Regency DFW airport from 2012 to 2022. As of 2023, the event is held at the Irving Convention Center. The main convention space took place in two large ballrooms where guests and vendors had tables set up, much like a marketplace. Spooky Empire
Spooky Empire is an American multigenre convention focused primarily on horror and science fiction, held bi-annually in Florida. The convention, which is billed as "the dark side of Comic-Con", features vendors, a film and tattoo festival, music, and celebrity guests. History Co-founded by Peter Mongelli, Spooky Empire has been held in Florida since 2003. It is held twice a year, in the spring and in the autumn. The first event, held in 2003, took place at a Holiday Inn in Broward County, Florida. The convention was held in Orlando, Florida from 2006 to 2019, before moving to Tampa, Florida for its autumn 2019 event due to a lack of sufficient available venue space in Orlando. Rue Morgue Festival Of Fear
Toronto, Canada's Festival of Fear is an annual multigenre fan convention that runs as part of Fan Expo Canada. It was founded as the Canadian National Horror Expo in 2004 by '' Rue Morgue Magazine'' and Hobby Star Marketing Inc. It is traditionally a three-day event (Friday through Sunday) typically held the weekend before Labour Day during the summer in Toronto, Canada, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Since 2011 it has become a four-day-long event. Monsterpalooza is an American multigenre convention focusing on horror, creatures and makeup work. The convention takes place every spring in Los Angeles, California, most recently in the Pasadena Convention Center. A smaller offshoot convention, "Son of Monsterpalooza" is held in Burbank in the fall. History After a successful trial run in New Jersey in 2008, Monsterpalooza was organized on the West Coast by Eliot Brodsky in 2009, and held at the Marriott Burbank Convention Center. It has been held annually since then, and usually takes place in March, April or May. Monster-Mania Con is a semi-annual horror film and memorabilia fan convention held in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Hunt Valley, Maryland, and Oaks, Pennsylvania, United States since 2003. It is mainly focused on its guest panels, where fans can meet horror movie actors. It is a three-day event held at the DoubleTree Hotel (formerly Crowne Plaza and later Cherry Hill Hotel) in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Delta Hotels Marriott in Hunt Valley, Maryland, and Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania. Fright Night Film Fest, also known as Louisville Fright Night Film Fest, is an annual horror film festival in Louisville, Kentucky. The festival was first founded in 2005 by Ken Daniels and is typically held in July at the Galt House, which is famous for housing guests for the Kentucky Derby.
