Holstebro Municipality
Holstebro Municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a population of 57,411 (1 April 2014). Its mayor is H. C. Østerby, a member of the Social Democratic party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Holstebro. On 1 January 2007 Holstebro municipality was, due to ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), merged with existing Ulfborg-Vemb and Vinderup municipalities to form the new Holstebro municipality. Ulfborg-Vemb
Ulfborg-Vemb was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in the former Ringkjøbing County on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark. By January 1, 2007, Ulfborg-Vemb municipality ceased to exist due to ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with existing Holstebro and Vinderup municipalities to form the new Holstebro municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 790 km2 and a total population of 56,204. Ulfborg-Vemb covered an area of 226 km2, and had a total population of 6,959 (2005). Its mayor was Niels Kristian Jensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Ulfborg. Socialist People's Party (Denmark)
The Green Left ( da, Socialistisk Folkeparti, SF) is a democratic socialist political party in Denmark. It was formerly known in English as the Socialist People's Party, the literal translation of its Danish name. History 1959–1969 The SF was founded on 15 February 1959 by Aksel Larsen, a former leader of the Communist Party of Denmark (DKP). Larsen was removed from the ranks of the DKP for his criticism over the Soviet intervention in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Larsen and the new SF sought to form a third way between Denmark's United States-oriented social democracy and Soviet Union–oriented communism, which sought to combine democracy with socialism. The Conservative People's Party ( da, Det Konservative Folkeparti, DKF), also known as The Conservatives () is a conservative centre-right political party in Denmark. The party is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and International Democrat Union. The Danish Social Liberal Party ( da, Radikale Venstre, , Radical Left) is a social-liberal political party in Denmark. The party was founded as a split from the Venstre Reform Party in 1905. Historically, the centrist party has played a central role in Danish politics and has supported governments on both sides of the political spectrum, as co-operation is a primary belief of the party. Douzelage
The Douzelage is a town twinning association with one town from each of the member states of the European Union. The name is a portmanteau of the French words "douze" for twelve and "jumelage" for twinning and stands for the twelve founder members, one for each European Union member state in 1991, when the Douzelage Charter was signed in Granville, France. Although the membership of the EU, and of the association, has grown, the name Douzelage has been kept unchanged. Following Brexit in 2020, the English town of Sherborne is no longer situated in an EU-member state. However, a 2018 Douzelage document states that the town "must not have any consequences related to the Brexit and continue as a member of Douzelage European Town Twinning", and as such is expected to remain a member. Vemb is a little town in west Jutland, Denmark wtith a population of 1,276 (1 January 2022). ''Vemb Kirke'' *1844 ''Vemb'' The first time the town was named, it was called ''Weæm''. The ending letter ''b'' emerged around the year 1600, disappeared, then finally appeared again in 1844 in the present spelling form ''Vemb''. The meaning of ''Vemb'' is not known, but could possibly mean "vi" (Danish for "we"). The oldest building in the current city boundary is ''Vemb kirke'' (Vemb church), which has undergone few changes since it was built around 1200. Just east of the church lies ''Den Gamle Skole'' ("The Old School"), now privately owned, that was the town and area's first school. It is said that in the late 1800s three women met on 1 April in the little school with one classroom. These three women would all reach the age of 100.
