Hilvarenbeek
Hilvarenbeek () is a municipality and a town in the south of the Netherlands, along the border with Belgium. The biggest tourist attraction is called Beekse Bergen, consisting of a safari park, amusement park/playground, holiday bungalow park, and camping parks. In the centre of the town the Sint-Petrus'-Banden is a Gothic church from the 14th and 15th centuries. The tower is a highlight of the Kempen Gothic. North Brabant
North Brabant ( nl, Noord-Brabant ; Brabantian: ; ), also unofficially called Brabant, is a province in the south of the Netherlands. Speelland Beekse Bergen
Speelland Beekse Bergen is an amusement park and playground located close to Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands. It is a part of the ''Beekse Bergen'' group, also owning Safaripark Beekse Bergen. The park is being exploited by Libéma Exploitatie. Speelland mainly offers playgrounds, a beach, and water attractions. Diessen
Diessen is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Hilvarenbeek. History The village was first mentioned in 380 as Deusone, and relates to the Dieze River. The etymology is unclear. Diessen developed in the Early Middle Ages around the Reusel stream. The St Willibrordus church with a choir from the early-15th century and a nave from around 1450. The tower was probably built in 1527. The church was restored between 1970 and 1773, and some of the 19th century modifications have been undone. Diessen was home to 1,003 people in 1840. Diessen was a separate municipality until 1997, when it was merged with Hilvarenbeek. Safaripark Beekse Bergen
Safaripark Beekse Bergen is the largest wildlife zoo of the Benelux region and provides a home to approximately 1,250 animals from over 150 species, varying from small mammals to large birds. It is located between the cities of Tilburg and Hilvarenbeek in the south of the Netherlands. The visitors can for instance watch zebras and giraffes on the spacious savannahs. Safaripark Beekse Bergen offers the possibility to explore the park on numerous safaris: walksafari, carsafari, bussafari and boatsafari. The park is owned by the company Libéma Exploitatie BV, which is one of the largest leisure-related companies in the Netherlands. What makes the park so special is that visitors can explore the park with their own car, without a fence in between the visitor and the animals. Annie Abrahams
Annie Abrahams (born 1954) is a Dutch performance artist specialising in video installations and internet based performances, often deriving from collective writings and collective interaction. Born and raised in Hilvarenbeek in the Netherlands, she migrated to and settled in France in 1987. Her performance work challenges and questions the limitations and possibilities of online communication and collaboration. Abrahams describes her body of work as "an aesthetics of trust and attention." Studying biology became an inspiration for her future line of work. Johannes Goropius Becanus
Johannes Goropius Becanus () (23 June 1519 – 28 June 1573), born Jan Gerartsen, was a Dutch physician, linguist, and humanism, humanist. Life He was born Jan Gerartsen van Gorp in the hamlet of Gorp, Netherlands, Gorp, in the municipality of Hilvarenbeek. As was the fashion of the time, Gerartsen adopted a Latinized surname based on the name of his birthplace, ''Goropius'' being rendered from "Van Gorp"' and ''Becanus'' referring to "Hilvarenbeek." He studied medicine in Leuven, and became physician to two sisters of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V: Mary of Austria, Queen of Hungary, Mary of Austria and Eleanor of Austria, who were based in Brussels at the time. Esbeek
Esbeek is a village with 1,200 inhabitants. It is one of the six church villages of the municipality of Hilvarenbeek, which has a total of 15,000 inhabitants. Esbeek is located on the high sandy soils in the south of the Netherlands in the province of North Brabant, on the border with Belgium. The village originated from a ring structured village around farm fields, the structure of which can still be recognized today. In addition to Esbeek, it includes the neighborhoods of 'Groenstraat' and 'Hoogeind'. The field is located on the western bank of the 'Spruitenstroompje', a stream that flows into the 'Reusel' five kilometers north of village of Diessen. Antonius Adrianus Gerardus Maria "Ronald" van Raak (born 30 October 1969) is a Dutch politician, non-fiction writer and former academic. Henny Vrienten (27 July 1948 – 25 April 2022) was a Dutch musician best known as the singer and bassist of the popular 1980s ska pop band Doe Maar. He also composed television and film scores. Biography Early days Vrienten began his career in the late 1960s as a member of the local outfit Les Cruches. In the early 1970s, he wrote songs for others and released his first single as Ruby Carmichael. Martinus Becanus (6 January 1563 – 24 January 1624) was a Dutch-born Jesuit priest, known as a theologian and controversialist.
