Highline Public Schools (HPS) is a List of school districts in Washington, public school district in King County, Washington, King County, headquartered in Burien, Washington. Highline High School
Highline High School is a public high school in Burien, Washington, United States, located about 3.5 miles from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport. Highline High School, the flagship high school of the Highline Public Schools district, opened in 1924 and served the cities of Burien, Des Moines, and an area south of Seattle now known as White Center. Raisbeck Aviation High School
Raisbeck Aviation High School (or RAHS), part of the Highline School District, is located in Tukwila, Washington. The school is an aviation- and aerospace-themed STEM school and one of the Highline School District's small schools. It is focused on preparing students for college, careers, and citizenship. Global Connections High School was a public high school in SeaTac, Washington. It was one of three small schools at the Tyee Educational Complex, along with the Academy of Citizenship and Empowerment and Odyssey-The Essential School. It was founded in 2005 when Tyee High School converted into three schools, and accredited individually in 2006. Global Connections High School merged with the Academy of Citizenship and Empowerment again after the 2016–2017 school year ended. They are now Tyee High School again. White Center is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. It lies between West Seattle and Burien. The population was 16,631 at the 2020 census. White Center is sometimes referred to by the nickname "Rat City" due to the historical presence of a military Relocation and Training Center during World War II. Highline Big Picture
Highline Big Picture is a small school in the Highline School District in Burien, Washington, that is part of a network of Big Picture schools all over the United States. The high school opened in 2005 with 2009 being the first year with a graduating class. It is a small school with an average teacher-to-student ratio of 1:17. Highline Big Picture, as part of the Big Picture Network, practices Learning Through Internships or LTI as it is known in the school. On Tuesdays and Thursdays students look for interviews with people in their interest field, this is followed up with shadow day with them. Shadow day within the school is a day in which you follow the people you interview around for a day or two. This is to help the student get an internship at the same place of their choice. Small Schools Movement
The small schools movement, also known as the Small Schools Initiative, in the United States of America holds that many high schools are too large and should be reorganized into smaller, autonomous schools of no more than 400 students, and optimally under 200. Many private schools of under 200 share design features which draw upon the benefits of organizations of less than 200 people. In the public school version of the Small Schools Movement, students may be given a choice of which small school they want to join. Each of the smaller schools would offer students a feeling of connectedness between students who share the same or similar interests with them. Tyee High School, formerly Tyee Educational Complex, is a public high school campus located in SeaTac, Washington, United States. It was founded as Tyee High School, a single public high school, in 1962. It is operated by the Highline School District. Starting in the 2005–2006 academic year, it was split from a single school into three smaller high schools.
