Hierodula
''Hierodula'' is a genus of praying mantids in the tribe Hierodulini, found throughout Asia. Many species are referred to by the common name giant Asian mantis because of their large size compared to other mantids. Their large size and vibrant coloration make ''Hierodula'' mantids popular in the pet trade. Some widespread species include '' H. membranacea'' and '' H. patellifera''; however this has been considered a 'catch all' genus and is currently subject to review. ''Hierodula patellifera'', common name giant Asian mantis, Asian mantis, Indochina mantis or Harabiro Mantis, is a species of praying mantis belonging to genus ''Hierodula''. Description Males are about 45-65 mm long and females around 65-75 mm long. Individuals can vary from green to brown in color. Hierodula Membranacea
''Hierodula membranacea'' is a large praying mantis, sharing its common name giant Asian mantis with other large members of genus ''Hierodula'': of which it is the type species. Its colours vary from green to yellow-green, or even brown to reddish-brown, similar to those of the giant Indian mantis and the giant Malaysian mantis. As the name suggests, it originates from south-eastern Asia and is among the largest of mantises. Male and female adults reach around , excluding extended forelegs. It is a cannibalistic species, with the females sometimes eating the males after mating. Habitat ''Hierodula membranacea'' inhabits in shrubs and tree areas.
