Handball At The 2020 Summer Olympics
The handball tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place from 24 July to 8 August 2021 at Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but on 24 March 2020, the Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic meant that there were no spectators. The format was the same as it has been since 2000 for the men and 2008 for the women: 12 teams in two groups playing round robin followed by knock-out matches for the eight best starting with quarter-finals and ending with final and bronze match. France took both gold medals as the first team since Yugoslavia in Los Angeles 1984. Both finals were a repetition of the last ones: Denmark versus France for the men and Russia/ROC versus France for the women. In 2016 France lost both matches. Yoyogi National Gymnasium
Yoyogi National Gymnasium, officially is an indoor arena located at Yoyogi Park in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, which is famous for its suspension roof design. It was designed by Kenzo Tange and built between 1961 and 1964 to house swimming and diving events in the 1964 Summer Olympics. A separate annex was used for the basketball competition at those same games. It will also host handball competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The design inspired Frei Otto's arena designs for the Olympic Stadium in Munich. The arena holds 13,291 people (9,079 stand seats, 4,124 arena seats and 88 "royal box" seats) and is now primarily used for ice hockey, futsal and basketball. The NHK World studios are adjacent to the arena along the edge of Yoyogi Park. Therefore, images of the arena are regularly featured at the end of NHK Newsline broadcasts. Nikola Karabatić (born 11 April 1984) is a French handball player for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team. Niklas Landin Jacobsen (born 19 December 1988) is a Danish handballer for THW Kiel and the Denmark national team. He has previously played for Rhein-Neckar Löwen. He is European Champion with the Danish national team, after winning the 2012 Championship in Serbia, defeating the host nation in the final, 21–19. Emil Jakobsen
Emil Jakobsen (born 24 January 1998) is a Danish handball player for the German club SG Flensburg-Handewitt and the Danish national team. He joined his current club, Flensburg-Handewitt in 2021 on a three year contract. In 2022 he announced that he had prolonged the contract until 2026. He represented Denmark at the 2021 and the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship, where he won gold medals on both occasions. Jacob Tandrup Holm (born 5 September 1995) is a Danish handball player who plays for Paris Saint-Germain and the national team. He represented Denmark at the 2020 European Men's Handball Championship. He debuted for the national team in 2016 in a match against the Feroe Islands. Jóhan á Plógv Hansen (born 1 May 1994) is a Faroese-born Danish handballer for SG Flensburg-Handewitt and the Danish national team. He has previously represented Faroe Islands national team, but due to the structure of the Danish Realm Greenlandic and Faeroese players can themselves decide which national team they wish to represent. Nedim Remili (born 18 July 1995) is a French handball player for Telekom Veszprém and the France national team. Biography Remili was born in Créteil, a commune in southeastern suburbs of Paris. His father, Kamel Remili, played his entire career for US Créteil and won the LNH 1 with them in 1989. His brother Meyane played for SO Romorantin and US Créteil-Lusitanos.
