Hammarskjöld Family
The Hammarskjöld family, also known as Hammarskiöld family, is a Swedish noble family, enrolled in ''Riddarhuset'' (English: " House of Nobility") with the number of 135. Background The founder of the family was Peder Mikaelsson (c. 1560–1646), the Governor of Borgholm Castle. He fought for King Sigismund at Stångebro in 1598 and was knighted in 1610 with the name of ''Hammarskiöld''. He was married twice. His first wife was Beata Körning, daughter of the ''slottslov'' ("castle commander") Erik Matsson Körning and Kjerstin Hand. His second wife, a cousin of Beata, was Christina Stjerna, the daughter of Peder Månsson Stjerna (number 77 in ''Riddarhuset'') and Karin Hand. The two marriages produced children but the issue from his first wife went out early on the "sword side" (''svärdssidan'', literally "on the side of the sword" meaning without any male heirs). Ludvig Hammarskiöld
Lieutenant General Peder Adolf Ludvig Regnell Hammarskiöld (26 June 1869 – 4 July 1958) was a Swedish Army officer. Hammarskiöld's senior commands include commanding officer of the 2nd Army Division and the Eastern Army Division, the position of Commandant General of Stockholm Garrison, Master-General of the Ordnance and Inspector of the Artillery. As a military historian, he researched the ancient history of the Swedish artillery. Gabriel Anrep
John Gabriel Anrep (December 4, 1821 – March 12, 1907) was a Swedish genealogist and author. Biography He was born on December 4, 1821 at Lekeberg Municipality on the family farm. He moved to Stockholm and was involved in genealogical publishing. He is best known for his history of Swedish nobility in 4 volumes. It was Sweden's first scholarly genealogical work. From 1871 to 1882 he published another set of genealogy books, and the 1900s edition was edited by Gustaf Elgenstierna. In 1854 he started a new set in 27 volumes, containing information up to 1903. General Carl Gustaf Valdemar Hammarskjöld (22 April 1865 – 27 February 1940) was a Swedish Army officer and conservative politician. Early life Hammarskjöld was born on 22 April 1865 at Väderum farm in Tuna Parish, Vimmerby Municipality, Sweden, the son of lieutenant Knut Hammarskjöld (1818–1891) and Wilhelmina ''Mimmi'' (née Cöster) (1832–1901). Åke Hammarskjöld
Åke Wilhelm Hjalmar Hammarskjöld (April 10, 1893 – July 7, 1937) was a Swedish lawyer and diplomat. He was the first Registrar of the Permanent Court of International Justice, serving from 1922 to 1936, when he was elected to the position of judge to the same court. He served in the latter position until his death. Life Åke Hammarskjöld was born in 1893 in Uppsala. He studied at the University of Uppsala for a career in the foreign service. Knut Hjalmar Leonard Hammarskjöld (; 4 February 1862 – 12 October 1953) was a Swedish politician, scholar, cabinet minister, Member of Parliament from 1923 to 1938 (first chamber), and Prime Minister of Sweden from 1914 to 1917. Lorenzo Hammarsköld
Lorenzo Hammarsköld (b. ''Lars Hammarskjöld'', 7 April 1785 – 15 October 1827) was a Swedish critic and literary historian. He also published poetry. Biography He was born at Tuna, Vimmerby. He became a student at Uppsala in 1801, but failed to take his degree in 1806. He therefore accepted a humble post at the royal library at Stockholm, with which institution he remained connected for many years.
