Gymnastics At The 1992 Summer Olympics
At the 1992 Summer Olympics, two different gymnastics were contested: artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics. The artistic gymnastics events were held at the Palau Sant Jordi from July 26 through August 2. The rhythmic gymnastics event were held at the Palau dels Esports de Barcelona from August 6 through 8th. In artistic gymnastics, the ''New Life'' rule was introduced at the Olympic Games. Under this rule, a gymnast's scores in the compulsory and optional rounds were not carried over to the all-around and apparatus finals. A gymnast's final standing in both the all-around and apparatus finals was based solely on the scores received by the gymnast during those competitions. Palau Sant Jordi
Palau Sant Jordi (, en, St. George's Palace) is an indoor sporting arena and multi-purpose installation that is part of the Olympic Ring complex located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, it was opened in 1990. The maximum seating capacity of the arena is 17,960. It is the largest indoor arena in Spain. The Palau Sant Jordi was one of the main venues of the 1992 Summer Olympics hosting the artistic gymnastics, handball final, and volleyball final events. Andreas Wecker
Andreas Wecker (born 2 January 1970 in Staßfurt) is a former German gymnast who had a long and successful career. He was European, World and Olympic champion. His greatest achievement was the gold medal on high bar at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. There, he beat gymnasts of such quality as Vitaly Scherbo and Alexei Nemov. Trent Dimas
Trent Dimas (born November 10, 1970) is an Hispanic American gymnast and Olympic champion. Now retired, Dimas was an elite senior level international artistic gymnast. Dimas became a member of the U.S. junior national team at the age of 13 and made the U.S. senior national team at the age of 15. He attended the University of Nebraska his freshman year where he became a two time All American and a member of UNL's 1990 NCAA Men's Gymnastics championship team. After one season of NCAA competition, Dimas left his athletic scholarship to train full-time in hopes of making a U.S. Olympic Team.
