Golf At The 2023 Pan American Games
Golf competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile were held between 2 and 5 November 2023 at the Prince of Wales Country Club, located in La Reina. A total of two events were contested: an individual competition for both men and women. The mixed team event, which had been contested at the past two editions was not contested, similar to the 2020 Summer Olympics. Qualification A total of up to 64 golfers (32 men and 32 women) could qualify to compete. Each nation was able to enter a maximum of 4 athletes (two per gender). The host nation, Chile, automatically qualified the maximum number of athletes (4). The rest of the spots were awarded across the Official World Golf Ranking and Women's World Golf Rankings as of July 3, 2023. Any remaining spots were allocated using the World Amateur Golf Ranking as of 3 July 2023. Participating nations A total of 21 countries qualified golfers. Prince Of Wales Country Club
Prince of Wales Country Club is a Chilean sports and recreation club founded in 1925, taking its name from the then Prince of Wales, later to be King Edward VIII who opened the club. Originally it was located in Tobalaba and is now situated in Francisco Bilbao Avenue. The club provides multiple sports facilities including golf, rugby union, field hockey, tennis, football, squash and padel. It also has gymnasia, fitness classes and hosts cultural and social events. A cricket ground is also located there with a capacity for 800 spectators. The cricket ground has hosted touring sides such as the MCC. The Prince of Wales Country Club rugby team holds seven titles of the National Championship of Chile, two of which were tied. Their first win was in 1948, the inaugural season of the championship, and they won it seven times between then and 1971. Golf became part of the Pan American Games for the first time at the 2015 Games in Toronto, Canada. The Games had an individual event for each gender and a mixed-team competition. In the latter, the low female and low male score each day counted toward the team total. Colombia swept all three gold medals at the first edition. Golf At The 2024 Summer Olympics
The golf tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 1 to 10 August at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, featuring a total of 120 players (60 per gender) across two medal events. The golf qualification pathway and format for Paris remain the same as the previous two editions with 60 players qualifying for each gender-based event over a four-day-long, 72-hole individual stroke play tournament. The men's event will play first on 1 August with the women's side scheduled to occur four days later. Qualification Sixty players for each of the men's and women's tournaments will qualify for Paris 2024 based on the official IGF world ranking list of 17 June 2024 (for men) and 24 June 2024 (for women). The top 15 world-ranked golf players will be selected by name and secure their Olympic places, respecting the four-player limit per NOC. Alena Sharp (born March 7, 1981) is a Canadians, Canadian professional golfer currently playing on the LPGA Tour. Mariajo Uribe
María José Uribe Durán (known more commonly as Mariajo Uribe; born 27 February 1990) is a professional golfer from Colombia, currently playing on the LPGA Tour. Amateur career Uribe was born in Girón, Santander. At age 17, she won the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur, defeating Amanda Blumenherst 1 up. She is the only player from Latin America to have won this championship. Uribe tied for tenth and low amateur at the 2008 U.S. Women's Open and won the 2008 Mexican International Amateur. She played college golf at UCLA, and was an All-American First Team selection in 2008 and 2009. Professional career Uribe left UCLA in the spring of 2009 to return to her native Colombia. Prior to the 2009 U.S. Women's Open, Uribe ended her amateur status and competed in the tournament as a professional.
