Glyceria
''Glyceria'' is a widespread genus of grass family common across Eurasia, Australia, North Africa, and the Americas. ''Glyceria'' is known commonly as mannagrass in the United States, or, in the UK, sweet-grass. These are perennial rhizomatous grasses found in wet areas in temperate regions worldwide. The base of the grass grows along the ground and may root at several places. Then it grows erect and bears leaf blades which may be flat or folded. The panicle inflorescences nod when heavy. Some mannagrasses are considered weeds while others are endangered in their native habitats.Whipple, I. G. et al. Glyceria Fluitans
''Glyceria fluitans'' ( syns ''Festuca fluitans'', ''Poa fluitans'', ''Panicularia fluitans''), known as floating sweet-grass and water mannagrass, is a species of perennial grass in the genus ''Glyceria'' native to Europe, the Mediterranean region and Western Asia and occurring in wet areas such as ditches, riverbanks and ponds. It has a creeping rootstock, a thick stem which rises to one metre. The leaves are long, narrow and pale green, rough on both sides, often folded at the keel which lies on the surface of the water. The species epithet ''fluitans'' is Latin for "floating". History Before the 19th century, the grains were widely harvested in Central Europe and Sweden, and traded as far as England. It was cooked and eaten as gruel. Flood tolerance When a shoot is submerged in floodwater there is a strong reduction of diffusion of gases which limits oxygen and carbon dioxide availability. To handle the poor gas exchange while submerged, ''Glyceria fluitans'' forms ...

Glyceria Canadensis
''Glyceria canadensis'' is a species of grass in the genus ''Glyceria'' which is known by the common name rattlesnake mannagrass. It is native to North America, from British Columbia to Newfoundland and south to North Carolina. It is commonly found in wet areas. Habitat ''G. canadensis'' is an obligate wetland species, meaning it will not grow in areas which are not wetlands. These habitats include moist woods, marshes, swamps, wet woods, and shores along streams and lakes. Description ''Glyceria canadensis'' is a species of perennial bunchgrass which can grow up to 1m tall. The leaves are between 3-8mm wide, as with other species in the genus ''Glyceria'' the leaf sheaths are fused for the majority of their length. Flowers are produced in a panicle typically between June and September depending on location. The panicle is typically open, containing few spikelets and each spikelet tends to droop giving the overall inflorescence a curved shape. Each spikelet is 3-5mm long and ...
