Genesee County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 406,211, making it the fifth-most populous county in Michigan. The county seat and population center is Flint (birthplace of General Motors). Genesee County is considered to be a part of the greater Mid Michigan area. The county was named after Genesee County, New York which in turn comes from the Seneca word Gen-nis'-hee-yo, meaning "Beautiful Valley". Genesee County comprises the Flint, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. A major attraction for visitors is Crossroads Village, a living history village north of Flint. Genesee County is noted for having had the fossil of an ancient whale known as '' Balaenoptera Lacepede'' unearthed in Thetford Township during quarry work and estimated at 11,000 years old. Shiawassee County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 68,094. The county seat is Corunna, and the largest city in the county is Owosso. In 2010, the center of population of Michigan was located in Shiawassee County, in Bennington Township. The Charter Township of Montrose is a charter township of Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,224 at the 2010 census, a slight decrease from 6,336 at the 2000 census. The City of Montrose is surrounded by the township, but is politically and administratively autonomous. Davison Township, Michigan
Township of Davison is a civil township of Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan consisting of the survey township of North 7 East 8 less the administratively autonomous city of Davison. The population was 19,575 at the 2010 census, up from 17,722 at the 2000 census. Davison was named after Judge Norman Davison, a judge of Lapeer County and a delegate to state constitution convention of 1835. Kearsley Township, Michigan
The Township of Kearsley was a civil township in Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan organized April 19, 1839 from part of then Flint Township of its Township 7 north of range 7 sections 1-5 and 8-17. This is approximately the area encompassed today by N. Saginaw St. to the east, W. Pasadena Ave. to the north, west of Dye Rd. to the west, and Corunna Rd. to the south. Major Jonathan Kearsley was receiver in the United States land office in Detroit in the early 1800s from which all land in Genesee County was sold until 1836 when a Flint land office was opened. Kearsley Creek, Kearsley Community Schools, and one of the principal Flint city streets was name after him. Kearsley was given its own post office on August 25, 1841 with its initial postmaster Ogden Carke. The state legislature merged Kearsley Township back into Flint Township on March 7, 1843. The Charter Township of Flint, also known as Flint Township, is a charter township of Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 31,929 at the 2010 census.
