Futsal is a growing sport in England. England has a national team run by The Football Association. The team was formed in 2003 and England were one of the last major sporting nations in Europe to have a national team. The National Futsal Series began in 2019 and consists of 1 National Men's Tier, 2 Regional Men's Tiers and 2 Women's Regional Tiers and is considered the top level of Futsal in England. The National Futsal League began in February 2008, and was the first official national league in England. Futsal has become increasingly popular in England among both adults and young children still at school, and among university students. History The first futsal league in England was formed in 1990, the Pendle Futsal League based in Lancashire. UEFA Futsal Championship
The UEFA European Futsal Championship is the main futsal competition of the men's national futsal teams governed by UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations). History The first tournament was held in Spain in 1996 and featured only six teams. The tournament was expanded to eight teams in 1999 and held every two years, and further to 12 teams in 2010. After 2018, the tournament was expanded to 16 teams and held every four years, to avoid leap years when the FIFA Futsal World Cup is being played. The National Futsal League is a futsal league in England. It is a Community Interest Company owned and controlled by its Member Clubs and administered by an annually elected Board of Directors. The league is played under FIFA rules, began in 2008, and featured 57 teams in the 3 division pyramid for the 2018-19 season: FA Futsal Super League, Division 1 (North and South), and Division 2 (North, South, and Midlands). The FA National Futsal Super League was the highest level of futsal within England. The national champions become England's representatives in the UEFA Futsal Cup. Sporting Clube de Portugal has a professional futsal team based in Lisbon, Portugal, since 4 March 1985, and plays in Portuguese Futsal First Division. 2005 UEFA Futsal Championship
The 2005 UEFA Futsal Championship was the fifth official edition of the UEFA-governed European Championship for national futsal teams. It was held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, between 14 February and 20 February 2005. Spain, the reigning FIFA World Champion, defeated Russia in the final, winning their third (with 1996 and 2001) UEFA Championship. The third place match was a repeat of the 2003 final, with Italy again defeating Ukraine, this time 3–1. Lilleshall Hall is a large former country house and estate in the fields of Lilleshall, Shropshire, England. It is run by Serco Leisure Operating Ltd on behalf of Sport England as one of three National Sports Centres, alongside Bisham Abbey and Plas y Brenin. It lies between Telford and Newport. Graeme Dell
Graeme Dell (born 8 April 1964) was employed by the Football Association's as England national futsal team coach and has been in that position since the FA started its futsal programme in 2003, when he led the first ever England futsal team in the UEFA Futsal Championships. Dell led England in 51 international futsal matches, including the 2006 UEFA Futsal Championship and the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup, before he stepped down on 25 March 2008.
