Association Football, Football is the most popular sport in Uzbekistan, a country that gained Uzbek independence election, 1991, independence in 1991. The national association takes part in all competitions organised by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation. History of football in Uzbekistan Soviet Period Football in Uzbekistan started to develop in the 1920s. In 1926, the first championship of the Uzbek SSR (i.e. Uzbek League) was held. Sbornaya Tashkenta and Sokol Tashkent were the most successful clubs in the competition. However the most successful club was FC Pakhtakor, the only football club from Uzbek SSR that played in the USSR Top League with 22 seasons. The Uzbekistan Football Federation was founded in 1946. Berador Abduraimov is the most famous Uzbekistani footballer during the Soviet period. Uzbekistan Football Federation
The Uzbekistan Football Association ( uz, Oʻzbekiston Futbol Federatsiyasi) is the governing body of football in Uzbekistan, controlling the Uzbekistan national team. History Uzbekistan Football Federation was founded in 1946, while Uzbekistan was still under Soviet rule, and has been a member of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation since 1994. On 7 January 2013, at a ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland, Uzbekistan football federation was awarded the prize FIFA Fair Play Award from FIFA. Uzbekistan Football Federation took also first place in points for the "Fair Play" among the AFC in 2012. Berador Abduraimov
Berador Khasanovich Abduraimov (russian: Берадор Хасанович Абдураимов) (born May 14, 1943) is a Soviet former football player, who played for Pakhtakor for most of his football career as a striker. He is regarded as one of the best strikers and greatest football players in the history of Uzbek football. Playing career He started his football career in the ''Uzbekistan Youth football team'' in 1959. In the same year he began to play for the main squad of Pakhtakor in the Soviet Top League. In 1962, when he was only 19, Abduraimov became the Soviet Top League top goalscorer with 22 goals and Pakhtakor finished the season in the Soviet Top League at 6th place. Football at the 1994 Asian Games was held in Hiroshima, Japan from 1 to 16 October 1994. The Asian Football Confederation suggested that only under-23 teams should be entered, which meant that all the players had to be born after January 1, 1971. CIS National Football Team
The Commonwealth of Independent States national football team (russian: Сборная СНГ по футболу, ''Sbornaya SNG po futbolu'') was a transitional national team of the Football Federation of the Soviet Union in 1992. It was accepted that the team would represent the Commonwealth of Independent States. The CIS team was created to allow the Soviet national team further participation as it had already booked a spot in Euro 1992 through the 1990–91 qualification tournament. The only way to preserve the spot for the post-Soviet team was to take part in the competition as a unified team. Players had an option either to play for the team or to play for a team of their country. With the end of Euro 1992, the Russia national team was recognized as the only successor of the CIS team. Vasilis Hatzipanagis ( el, link=no, Βασίλης Χατζηπαναγής, , born 26 October 1954) is a Greek former professional footballer.
