First Lady of Brazil (''Portuguese'': ''Primeira-dama do Brasil'') is a title given to the hostess of Alvorada Palace. The position is traditionally filled by the wife of the current President of Brazil, but may apply to women who are not the president's wives, for instance, when the president is single or widowed. They do not have official functions within the government, but usually attend public ceremonies and organize social actions such as charity events. In addition, a charismatic first lady can help convey a positive image of her spouses to the population. The role of the first lady has changed considerably. Rosângela Lula da Silva (born 27 August 1966), commonly known by her nickname Janja, is a Brazilian Sociology, sociologist and the First Lady of Brazil as the wife of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Biography Rosângela was born on 27 August 1966 in União da Vitória, state of Paraná (state), Paraná. She moved to Curitiba during her childhood. Afonso Augusto Moreira Pena (; 30 November 1847 – 14 June 1909) was a Brazilian politician who served as the List of presidents of Brazil, sixth president of Brazil between 1906 and 1909. Manoel Ferraz de Campos Salles (; 15 February 1841 – 28 June 1913) was a Brazilian lawyer, coffee farmer, and politician who served as the fourth president of Brazil. He was born in the city of Campinas, São Paulo. He graduated as a lawyer from the Faculdade de Direito do Largo de São Francisco, São Paulo, in 1863. He served as a provincial deputy three times, general-deputy once, and also as minister of justice (1889-1891), senator and governor of São Paulo (1896–1897).
