Anime Mid-Atlantic
Anime Mid-Atlantic was an anime convention held in June (normally on Father's Day weekend) at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Virginia. The convention was previously held in Richmond, Virginia and Chesapeake, Virginia for several years. Programming The convention typically offered an anime music-video contest, artist's alley, dance, dealer's room, hall costume contest, karaoke, masquerade, panels, video game tournaments, video rooms, and workshops. History In 2001, Anime Mid-Atlantic became Richmond, Virginia's first anime convention and was held at the Holiday Inn Select Koger South Conference Center. The 2008 convention was scheduled to be held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Washington, D.C., but due to a double-booking issue, the Hyatt canceled the conventions contract. Virginia Film Festival
The Virginia Film Festival is a film festival hosted by the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The festival is held annually, usually in late October or early November. History Created in October 1988, the Virginia Festival of American Film (renamed The Virginia Film Festival) was endorsed by the state's Department of Economic Development and adopted by the University of Virginia. The intent was twofold: to stimulate economic development by encouraging film production in Virginia and increasing tourism, and to meld the creative interests and crafts of the American film industry with the intellectual resources of a nationally ranked university. Shaggfest
Shaggfest is an annual outdoor music festival held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA. It is presented by the Virginia-based radio station Z104 in partnership with Live Nation Entertainment. The event features many genres of music, including pop, hip hop indie and electronic dance music. Shaggfest has two stages where national and established musical artists, as well as local artists perform for fans. Background Shaggfest was founded by Brandon Stokes, also known as the radio personality and Virginia Beach local Shaggy, in 2011. Shenandoah Valley Music Festival
Shenandoah Valley Music Festival is the longest running music festival in Virginia. It presents a concert series each summer that takes place mid-July through Labor Day weekend at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, Virginia. The Festival started in 1963 as a way of bringing symphonic music to the rural Shenandoah Valley. Symphonic music is still included in the series; other genres including bluegrass, country, folk, pop-rock, roots, and Americana are also presented. Lockn' Festival, formerly known as Interlocken Music Festival, is an annual four-day music festival held at Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, Virginia. The festival focuses primarily on jam bands and other music improvisation acts. FloydFest
FloydFest is a Music and arts festival held annually near Floyd, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains History The event began in 2002, and spans five days each year with on-site camping and multiple stages featuring rock, bluegrass, reggae, folk, Yiddish, Cajun, or Zydeco, African, Appalachian, and world music performers. The event was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the 19th edition was deferred to 2021. After the 2022 festival, organizers moved the festival to a site in Check, VA. However, due to environmental concerns about the site, it could not be used for the 2023 festival, which had to be canceled. In addition to music, the festival features local arts and crafts, dance workshops, morning yoga lessons, story telling, poetry readings, and a "Children's Universe" tent.
