FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour (known between 2003 and 2012 as the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour for sponsorship reasons) was the worldwide professional beach volleyball tour for both men and women organized by the ' ( FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The World Tour was introduced 1989 for men and in 1992 for women being held yearly since then until 2021. Several tournaments were staged throughout the year. All athletes who competed in the qualifying and main draws of the tournaments earned points in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings, and after the last stage the pair that accumulated the most points during the year was declared the champion of the World Tour (only points from 75% of the tournaments in the season were considered for the ranking). Swatch is a Swiss watch, Swiss watchmaker founded in 1983 by Ernst Thomke, Elmar Mock, and Jacques Müller. It is a subsidiary of The Swatch Group. The 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour was the global elite professional beach volleyball circuit organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) for the 2018 beach volleyball season. Starts in September 2017 after the end of the year season, the 2018 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Calendar comprised three FIVB World Tour 5-star tournaments, eight 4-star, six 3-star, seven 2-star, twenty-two 1-star events and the World Tour Finals, all organised by the FIVB. Karolyn Kirby (born June 30, 1961, in Brookline, Massachusetts) is a retired female beach volleyball player from the United States. She won the bronze medal at the 1997 Beach Volleyball World Championships, 1997 World Championships in Los Angeles, California, partnering Nancy Reno. The pair also won the tournament at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 Olympics, at which beach volleyball was a demonstration sport. Kirby was a two-time AIAW volleyball All-American at Utah State, leading the Aggies to three-straight top 10 national finishes from 1979 to 1981. Randy Stoklos
Randy Stoklos (born December 13, 1960) is a retired professional beach volleyball player. He is the first player to earn $1,000,000 playing competitive beach volleyball. He won one U.S. championship and Five World championships with Sinjin Smith. He is a four-time winner of the Manhattan Beach Open. Stoklos played college volleyball at UCLA. He left UCLA early to focus on beach volleyball. He won his first Manhattan Open teaming with Jim Menges in 1981. Stoklos has 123 career wins (which ranks Stoklos third of all-time), amassed almost two million dollars in prize money and received numerous MVP and Best Setter awards. In 1992, he reflected on his father's unwillingness to allow him to play volleyball at the beach. His father was a Pole who survived a German work camp noted in the LA Times as a "harsh old-country type" who was afraid his son would grow up to be lazy if he spent too much time at the beach. Sinjin Smith
Christopher St. John "Sinjin" Smith (born May 7, 1957, in Santa Monica, California) is a professional beach volleyball player. He won one U.S. championship and two World championships with Randy Stoklos. He began to compete as a professional in the two man beach volleyball tournaments of Southern California at age fifteen. He went to college at UCLA, where he played setter and outside hitter in head coach Al Scates' 6-2 system. The UCLA Bruins won the national championship in Smith's freshman year. The following year the Bruins did not make the final four, but as a junior the team again reached the finals before losing to Pepperdine. Smith was selected to the all tournament team. In his senior year in 1979 the Bruins again reached the finals, defeating cross town rival USC to win the national championship.
