Erythrolamprus Aesculapii
''Erythrolamprus aesculapii'', also known commonly as the Aesculapian false coral snake, the South American false coral snake, and in Portuguese as ''bacorá'', or ''falsa-coral'', is a species of mildly venomous snake in the family Colubridae. The species is endemic to South America. Freiberg M (1982). ''Snakes of South America''. Hong Kong: T.F.H. Publications. 189 pp. . (''Erythrolamprus aesculapii'', pp. 66, 98, 132 + photograph on p. 42 + line drawing of head scalation on p. 67). Etymology The specific name, ''aesculapii'', refers to Aesculapius, the Greek mythological god of medicine, who is depicted with a snake-entwined staff. Geographic range ''E. aesculapii'' is found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. It is also found on the island of Trinidad (in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago). Habitat and behavior ''E. aesculapii'' is often found in the leaf litter or burrowing in the soil in rain forests, at altitudes from sea level to . Diet ''E. aesculapii'' ...

''Erythrolamprus bizona'', commonly known as the double-banded false coral snake, is a species of colubrid snake, which is endemic to northern South America and Central America. Geographic range It is found in Colombia, Venezuela, Freiberg, M.A. 1982. ''Snakes of South America''. T.F.H. Publications. Hong Kong. 189 pp. . (''Erythrolamprus bizona'', p. 98.) Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, and on the island of Trinidad (in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago). Mimicry Similar in pattern to a coral snake, this species probably gains protection through mimicry. Diet It probably feeds mainly on other snakes. Habitat It is often found in the leaf litter or burrowed in the soil in rain forests. Symbiotic relationship It burrows primarily near the ''Pouteria caimito ''Pouteria caimito'', the abiu (), is a tropical fruit tree originated in the Amazonian region of South America. Dixon's ground snake (''Erythrolamprus atraventer'') is a species of snake in the family Colubridae. The species is endemic to Southeastern Brazil. Geographic range ''E. atraventer'' is found in the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Habitat ''E. atraventer'' occurs in the upland areas of the Atlantic Forest, forest edges, in wet areas, and in both forested and open areas. It is terrestrial and diurnal. Description The holotype, a male, measures in total length, which includes tail. Female topotypes had relatively shorter tails. The belly is black, as indicated by its specific name (from Latin ''atra'' (=black) and ''venter'' (=belly)). Later studies indicate a maximum length of . Reproduction ''E. atraventer'' is oviparous. Conservation status The IUCN did not identify any overt threats affecting ''E. atraventer'', and lists the species as "Least Concern". Coral Snake
Coral snakes are a large group of elapid snakes that can be divided into two distinct groups, the Old World coral snakes and New World coral snakes. There are 16 species of Old World coral snakes, in three genera (''Calliophis'', '' Hemibungarus'', and ''Sinomicrurus''), and over 65 recognized species of New World coral snakes, in two genera (''Micruroides'' and ''Micrurus''). Genetic studies have found that the most basal lineages have origins in Asia, suggesting that the group originated in the Old World. While new world species of both genera are venomous, their bites are seldom lethal; only two confirmed fatalities have been documented in the past 100 years from the genus ''Micrurus''. Meanwhile, snakes of the genus ''Micruroides'' have never caused a medically-significant bite. North American coloration patterns Experts now recognize that certain coloration patterns and common mnemonics - such as the phrase “Red touch yellow, kill a fellow; red touch black, you’re good, ...

Albert Günther
Albert Karl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther FRS, also Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Günther (3 October 1830 – 1 February 1914), was a German-born British zoologist, ichthyologist, and herpetologist. Günther is ranked the second-most productive reptile taxonomist (after George Albert Boulenger) with more than 340 reptile species described. Early life and career Günther was born in Esslingen in Swabia (Württemberg). His father was a ''Stiftungs-Commissar'' in Esslingen and his mother was Eleonora Nagel. He initially schooled at the Stuttgart Gymnasium. His family wished him to train for the ministry of the Lutheran Church for which he moved to the University of Tübingen. A brother shifted from theology to medicine, and he, too, turned to science and medicine at Tübingen in 1852. His first work was "''Ueber den Puppenzustand eines Distoma''". He graduated in medicine with an M.D. from Tübingen in 1858, the same year in which he published a handbook of zoology for students of ...

Mimicry
In evolutionary biology, mimicry is an evolved resemblance between an organism and another object, often an organism of another species. Mimicry may evolve between different species, or between individuals of the same species. Often, mimicry functions to protect a species from predators, making it an anti-predator adaptation. Mimicry evolves if a receiver (such as a predator) perceives the similarity between a mimic (the organism that has a resemblance) and a model (the organism it resembles) and as a result changes its behaviour in a way that provides a selective advantage to the mimic. The resemblances that evolve in mimicry can be visual, acoustic, chemical, tactile, or electric, or combinations of these sensory modalities. Mimicry may be to the advantage of both organisms that share a resemblance, in which case it is a form of mutualism; or mimicry can be to the detriment of one, making it parasitic or competitive. The evolutionary convergence between groups is driven by th ...
