Earth Defense Force
''Earth Defense Force'', known in Japan as , is a series of third-person shooter video games. The series is published by the Japanese company D3 Publisher as part of the ''Simple'' series. Story In 2013, radio waves from deep space are picked up by scientists, proving the existence of extraterrestrial life. The Earth Defense Force, a unified multinational military, is founded a few years later, in case the aliens prove to be hostile. In each of the games the player assumes the role of an EDF soldier during an alien invasion. ''Global Defence Force'' is a PlayStation 2 third-person shooter video game developed by Sandlot. The game was originally published as ''The Chikyū Bōeigun 2'' in Japan by D3 Publisher, as volume 81 of the '' Simple 2000 series'' of budget games. It was later released in Europe by Essential Games, the brand created by D3 Publisher to publish Simple 2000 series games in Europe. Players assume the role of a member of the earth defense force and fight giant insects and other enemies, who have invaded earth from outer space. A PlayStation Portable version of the game, titled ''Earth Defense Forces 2 Portable'' was released on April 7, 2011 in Japan. Xseed Games is an American video game company founded by former members of Square Enix USA. It later became a subsidiary of the Japanese game company Marvelous, providing the localization and publishing services for video games and related materials.
