Dykehead Football Club was a football club based in the Dykehead area of Shotts, playing their home games at Parkside.D. Pickering, ''The Cassell Soccer Companion'', London: Cassell, 1995, p. 98 The club were members of the Scottish Football League Third Division. The early history of the club is somewhat shrouded in mystery, although they were formed in 1880 but did not register with the Scottish Football Association until four years later. The club briefly competed in the Scottish Football Alliance, as well as the Eastern Football League, the Inter County Football League and the Scottish Football Union, which they won in 1912–13. They eventually ended up in the Western League, which was incorporated by the Scottish Football League as its new Third Division for the 1923–24 season. Parkside is a football ground in Shotts, Scotland. It was the home ground of Dykehead during their time in the Scottish Football League (SFL) between 1923 and 1926. History Parkside was a basic ground, with the pavilion in the western corner of the pitch being its only structure. Edward “Eddie” MacLaine (April 11, 1899 – June 14, 1972) was a Scottish-Canadian soccer player who earned two caps with Canada in 1925 and 1926. He played professionally in Canada and the American Soccer League. He was 73 years old when he died on June 14, 1972. Player Club MacLaine began his career in his native Scotland with Albion Rovers, Dykehead and Mid-Annandale. In 1924, he moved to Canada where he played for four teams: Grenadier Guards, Montreal Maroons, Montreal Carsteel and Montreal Vickers. He briefly moved south to join Providence of the American Soccer League. In his first year in the league, he scored twenty-one goals in thirty-two league games. In 1927, he began the season with Providence, played three games, then left the team to return to Canada. After his return, he played for Carsteel in 1930 and 1931.
