Drimmelen () is a municipality and a town in the southern Netherlands, in the province North Brabant. A large portion of the Biesbosch National Park is part of this municipality. Made, Netherlands
Made is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Drimmelen, about 10 km northeast of Breda. History The village was first mentioned in 1321 as die Made, and means hay land. Until the 14th century, Made was part of the meadows of Geertruidenberg and was considered part of the city until 1795. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1512. In 1944, it was damaged by war and restored in 1952. The Catholic St. Bernardus Church was built in 1870. Made was home to 1,104 people in 1840. Terheijden
Terheijden is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Drimmelen, about 6 km north of Breda. History The village was first mentioned in 1332 as van der Heyden, and means "(cultivated) heath land". Terheijden started to develop as the road to Breda deteriorated due to flooding. Around 1400, the hamlets of Hartel and Schimmae were given permission to found a church on the heath. The tower of the St. Antonius Abt church dates from the 15th century. The choir and transept were built around 1500. The church was renovated by Pierre Cuypers between 1876 and 1878. The church was damaged by fire in 1922, and war in 1944. In 1949, the damage was repaired. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1809 and is a little white church. The Kleine Schans is a sconce built in 1830 as a result of the Belgian Revolution. Lage Zwaluwe
Lage Zwaluwe is a village in the municipality Drimmelen, North Brabant, the Netherlands. The Lage Zwaluwe railway station and the Moerdijk bridges lie to the west of the village. History The village was first mentioned in as 1291 Zwaluwe, and means whirling, rushing river. Laag (lower) has been added by distinguish from Hooge Zwaluwe. Lage Zwaluwe developed as a linear settlement along the dyke (embankment), dike of the Grote Hollandse Waard. The Dutch Reformed church dates from 1816 and was extended in 1867. The Catholic St John the Baptist church was built in 1951 and contains three 17th century Flemish paintings. Lage Zwaluwe was home to 1,241 people in 1840. In 1866, the Lage Zwaluwe railway station opened. The original station building was destroyed in 1945. In 1950, a small building was constructed. Johannes Gijsbert Vogel (25 June 1828 – 15 May 1915) was a Dutch landscape painter. Vogel was born in Hooge Zwaluwe, (Drimmelen), as the son of the local mayor and moved to the Hague, where he became a pupil of Andreas Schelfhout. Pieter Rudolph Kleijn
Pieter Rudolph Kleijn or Kleyn (1785 – 1816) was a 19th-century landscape painter from the Northern Netherlands who died young. Kleijn was born in Hooge Zwaluwe as one of seven children of the mayor, lawyer and poet Johannes Petrus Kleyn and the poet Antoinette Ockerse. The poet Adelaide Geertruid Kleyn was his sister. Biesbosch National Park
De Biesbosch National Park is one of the largest national parks of the Netherlands and one of the last extensive areas of freshwater tidal wetlands in Northwestern Europe. The Biesbosch ('forest of sedges' or 'rushwoods') consists of a large network of rivers and smaller and larger creeks with islands. The vegetation is mostly willow forests, although wet grasslands and fields of reed are common as well. The Biesbosch is an important wetland area for waterfowl and has a rich flora and fauna. North Brabant ( nl, Noord-Brabant ; Brabantian: ; ), also unofficially called Brabant, is a province in the south of the Netherlands. Gianni Romme
Gianni Petrus Cornelis Romme (born 12 February 1973) is a Dutch marathoner and a former long track speed skater. He won two gold medals at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and was the World all-round champion in 2000 and 2003. Romme has been a coach since the 2006–07 speed skating season. Career During his long track career, Romme prevailed in long distances (5000 and 10000 metres). His greatest triumphs came at the 1998 Winter Olympics, where he won both events. Antoon van Schendel (Lage Zwaluwe, 9 May 1910 — Muret, France, 6 August 1990) was a Dutch professional road bicycle racer.
