Dorado, Puerto Rico
Dorado () is a Dorado barrio-pueblo, town and Municipalities of Puerto Rico, municipality on the northern coast of Puerto Rico, west of San Juan, Puerto Rico, San Juan and is located in the northern region of the island, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, Toa Alta, east of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, Vega Alta, and west of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, Toa Baja. Dorado is subdivided into five barrios and Dorado barrio-pueblo, Dorado Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. During the early 18th century, there were already mentions of a ''"Sitio de Dorado"'' (meaning a golden place) in some San Juan registers. Dorado barrio-pueblo is a barrio and the administrative center (seat) of Dorado, a municipality in Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 780. It is one of the six barrios in the municipality of Dorado, Puerto Rico, along with Espinosa, Higuillar, Maguayo, Mameyal and Río Lajas. Telephone numbers in Puerto Rico are assigned under the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). The NANP area codes for the island are 787 and 939. Prior to March 1, 1996, Puerto Rico was one of many Caribbean islands served by area code 809. On that date Puerto Rico was assigned the new area code 787. Permissive dialing of 809 ended January 31, 1997. Within only four years, 787 was already on the brink of exhaustion due to the proliferation of cell phones and dial-up Internet connections.
