Gao Min (diver)
Gao Min (; born September 28, 1970, in Zigong, Sichuan) is a female Chinese diver who won gold medals in the springboard event of the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. Diving career Gao learned how to swim at the age of four. At nine, she started gymnastics training, before she was spotted by a diving coach and persuaded to switch to compete in diving. She won her first major international competition - on the 3-meter springboard - in the World Championships in 1986. Nicknamed the "Diving Queen", Gao is one of the most dominant divers in the history of the sport. Undefeated in world competition on the 3-meter springboard between 1986 and 1992 (including Olympic Games gold medals both in 1988 in Seoul and 1992 in Barcelona). She is tied with the legendary Greg Louganis in winning the greatest number of international awards on one board. Wendy Lian Williams
Wendy Lian Williams (born 14 June 1967) is a retired American diver. She won a bronze medal in the 10 metres platform event at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Additional medals that Williams won include a gold at the 1989 FINA Diving World Cup and a bronze at the 1991 World Aquatics Championships. After ending her diving career in 1992, she worked for NBC as a sports commentator. Early life and education Williams was born on 14 June 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri. While spending her childhood in Bridgeton, Missouri, Williams took up trampolining and became a diver before she was three years old. For her post-secondary studies, Williams went to the University of Miami for psychology. Career As a college athlete, Williams appeared at the 1985 Summer Universiade. Yelena Miroshina
Yelena Nikolaevna Miroshina (russian: Елена Николаевна Мирошина, 5 June 1974 – 18 December 1995) was a Russian diver, best known for twice winning the gold medal at the European Championships in the 10 m platform, and winning Olympic silver in 1992, where in the final she progressed from 8th place after 4 jumps to second. Miroshina competed in two consecutive Summer Olympics, and represented two countries: the Soviet Union (1988) and the Unified Team (1992). She was affiliated with Spartak during her career. Miroshina was the youngest participant among the 89 (49 men and 40 women) competitors from 31 countries at the Seoul Games, with 14 years and 105 days. Miroshina retired from competitions in 1995. The same year she was found dead under the windows of her apartment in Moscow. She was pregnant at the time of her death. The cause of death remains unknown. Fu Mingxia (born August 16, 1978, in Wuhan, Hubei) is a retired Chinese Diving (sport), diver, multiple Olympic gold medalist and world champion. She won the platform-diving world championship in 1991 at the age of 12, making her the youngest diving champ of all time. She is also famous for being one of the youngest Olympic diving champions, having earned a gold at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 Barcelona Games when she was just 13 years and 345 days old. Wendy Lucero-Schayes (born June 26, 1963 in Denver, Colorado) is a retired female diver from the United States, who competed for her native country at the 1988 Summer Olympics. A native of Denver, CO who attended Southern Illinois University, Lucero's aim was to compete in gymnastics, figure skating and diving. However, she started her gymnastics and figure skating at a more advanced age than would allow her to compete at the elite level, so she focused on diving. Her father Don Lucero was the son of Spanish immigrants and her mother was of Irish descent. In 1985 she transferred to the University of Nebraska where she won the NCAA one meter springboard diving title. She competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics.
