Dierks is a city in Howard County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 916 as of the 2020 census, down from 1,133 in 2010. History Dierks was formerly known as "Hardscrabble.” It was changed to "Dierks" after Hans Dierks, the oldest of four brothers who owned the Dierks Lumber and Coal Company. In 2007, Dierks celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding. 2009 tornado Severe thunderstorms that moved through southwest Arkansas on April 9, 2009, produced an EF3 tornado that destroyed the city's water treatment plant. A training technician from the Arkansas Rural Water Association helped the utility operators establish a temporary connection to the neighboring Nashville Rural Water System until the National Guard could deliver a pair of portable water purification systems. Dierks Lake
Dierks Lake is a reservoir down the Saline River, and from Dierks, Arkansas. Construction The Flood Control Act approved July 3, 1958 authorized Dierks Dam for construction. The project was designed by the Tulsa District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers and constructed under their supervision. Construction of the project was started in June 1968 and embankment closure was made in May 1975. The dam is an earthen structure high. Purpose The purposes of Dierks Lake are: flood control on the Saline River, recreation, water supply, and fish and wildlife conservation. As a part of the Little River Basin System the lake offers a high degree of flood protection to large areas of land both in the Little River Basin and the flood plain along the Red River. ''Dierks Bentley'' is the debut studio album by American country music singer Dierks Bentley. It was released on August 19, 2003, throug Capitol Records Nashville. It produced three singles with "What Was I Thinkin'", " My Last Name", and " How Am I Doin'". The first one became Bentley's first number one hit on the US '' Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) chart. The album sold 1.1 million copies in the US. The track "My Love Will Follow You" was originally recorded by Buddy Miller on his 1995 album ''Your Love and Other Lies''. "Bartenders, Etc." and "Whiskey Tears" were originally featured on Bentley's independently released 2001 album ''Don't Leave Me in Love'', and were re-recorded for this album.
