Des Moines University (DMU) is a private medical school in West Des Moines, Iowa. Founded in 1898, Des Moines University is the second oldest osteopathic medical school and the fifteenth largest medical school in the United States. DMU's three colleges—the College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, and College of Health Sciences—offer nine academic degrees, including master's and doctorate degrees. Annual enrollment is approximately 1,550 students, and the university has more than over 14,000 total alumni in all 50 states. The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) is a Bethesda, Maryland–based medical association of gastroenterologists. The association was founded in 1932 and holds annual meetings and regional postgraduate continuing education courses, establishes research grants, and publishes ''The American Journal of Gastroenterology,'' ''Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology'' and The ACG Case Reports Journal'. More than 18,000 physicians from 86 countries are members of the ACG. Amy Foxx-Orenstein, D.O., FACG is an American gastroenterologist. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine a former president of the American College of Gastroenterology (2007-2008). Dr. Foxx-Orenstein is a fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. Albany Movement
The Albany Movement was a desegregation and voters' rights coalition formed in Albany, Georgia, in November 1961. This movement was founded by local black leaders and ministers, as well as members of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The group were assisted by Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). It was meant to draw attention to the brutally enforced racial segregation practices in Southwest Georgia. However, many leaders in SNCC were fundamentally opposed to King and the SCLC's involvement. They felt that a more democratic approach aimed at long-term solutions was preferable for the area other than King's tendency towards short-term, authoritatively-run organizing. The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is a professional medical organization representing Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (podiatrists) within the United States. The organization was founded in 1912 and is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. Approximately 80% of podiatrists in the US are members of the APMA.
