The Dean of Hereford is the head (''primus inter pares'' – first among equals) and chair of the chapter of canons, the ruling body of Hereford Cathedral. The dean and chapter are based at the ''Cathedral Church of Blessed Virgin Mary and St Ethelbert'' in Hereford. The cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Hereford and seat of the Bishop of Hereford. Hereford Cathedral 001
Hereford () is a cathedral city, civil parish and the county town of Herefordshire, England. It lies on the River Wye, approximately east of the border with Wales, south-west of Worcester and north-west of Gloucester. With a population of 53,112 in 2021 it is by far the largest settlement in Herefordshire. An early town charter from 1189, granted by Richard I of England, describes it as "Hereford in Wales". Hereford has been recognised as a city since time immemorial, with the status being reconfirmed as recently as October 2000. It is now known chiefly as a trading centre for a wider agricultural and rural area. Products from Hereford include cider, beer, leather goods, nickel alloys, poultry, chemicals and sausage rolls, as well as the famous Hereford breed of cattle. John Bagshaw (priest)
John Bagshaw (1784 – 20 December 1861) was a British Whig property developer and politician. Life He was the son of John Bagshaw of Rugby, Warwickshire. He moved to Harwich in Essex and acquired land at nearby Dovercourt, where he developed plans with the help of W.H. Lindsey, a London architect, to build a new resort overlooking the sea. He started the project in 1845 by building a mansion, Cliff House, for himself and his family and actively promoted a railway link to Harwich. When a chalybeate spring was discovered in the grounds of Cliff House, Bagshaw extended the property to incorporate a spa, library, pump room, and conservatory. He next developed Orwell Terrace where his son Robert John Bagshaw, also an MP for Harwich, moved into Banksea House in 1857. However the developments, which included Marine Parade and the Cliff Estate, caused him financial difficulties and he was declared bankrupt in 1859. John Prophet
John Prophet (1356–1416) was an English medieval Secretary to King Henry IV, Keeper of the Privy Seal and, Dean of Hereford and York. A distinguished and capable administrator he remained loyal to all kings through a mix of shrewdness, and cunning. Although guilty of simony and pluralism, Prophet was no lollard, but successfully made the transition from Richard II's extravagant court at Westminster to an indispensable servant of the Lancastrians. Life John Prophet was university educated and entered Holy Orders. Ordained a priest he served from 1380 onwards as a clerk in the Privy Seal office and clerk of the council under Richard II. Prophet was appointed Chaplain to Archbishop of Canterbury, William Courtenay in 1382, during which time he was made a prebendary of Wingham church. John Harold (priest)
John Harold (9 November 1873 – 16 February 1947) was a Liberal party and Unionist member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Brantford, Ontario and became a manufacturer. He was elected to Parliament at the Brant riding in the 1917 general election. After serving one federal term, the 13th Canadian Parliament, Harold left the House of Commons and did not seek re-election in the 1921 general vote. He made one attempt to return to Parliament when he was a Liberal candidate for Brant in the 1930 federal election but lost to Franklin Smoke, the incumbent at that time.
