David William Thomas (born May 20, 1949) is a Canadian actor, comedian and television writer. He is best known for being one half of the duo Bob and Doug McKenzie with Rick Moranis. He appeared as Doug McKenzie on '' SCTV'', for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award out of two nominations, and in the film ''Strange Brew'' (1983), which he also co-directed. As a duo, they made two albums, ''The Great White North'' and ''Strange Brew'', the former gaining them a Grammy Award nomination and a Juno Award. His other notable acting credits include ''Stripes'' (1981), ''Love at Stake'' (1987), '' Moving'' (1988), ''Coneheads'' (1993) and ''Rat Race'' (2001). David Thomas (10 December 1795 – 1836) was a signatory of the Texas Declaration of Independence and the first Attorney General (''ad interim'') and acting Secretary of War of the Republic of Texas. David Gilbert Thomas (4 August 1928, London, England – 9 May 2015, Torrington, Connecticut) was a chemist and solid-state physicist, known for his work at Bell Labs on the optical properties of semiconductors. Education and career Thomas was educated at Harrow School and at The Putney School in Vermont, before he matriculated at Oxford University, where received his three chemistry degrees: studying firstly at Oriel College for his BA (awarded 1949) and MA (awarded 1950); then at Merton College for his DPhil, awarded in 1952. David S. G. Thomas is a British scientist and geographer. He was born at his parents' home in River, near Dover, Kent, UK, in October 1958. He is Professor of geography at the University of Oxford, the fifth person to hold the Statuary Chair, and a Professorial Fellow of Hertford College, Oxford. Career and research His research deals with desertification, dryland environments, climate change and other environmental phenomena. Recent research has focussed on desert geoarchaeology, dryland bioenergy and long-term environmental change in deserts. He received his D.Phil. from the University of Oxford. David Thomas (22 July 1942 – 11 May 2017) was a Welsh Anglican bishop. From 1996 to 2008, he served as the Provincial Assistant Bishop of the Church in Wales. In this role, he ministered to those who could not accept the ordination of women as priests. Early life and education Thomas was born on 22 July 1942 in Bangor, Wales. He was educated at Christ College, Brecon, a private school in Brecon. He studied classics at Keble College, Oxford, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1964: as per tradition, his BA was promoted to a Master of Arts (MA Oxon) degree in 1967. In 1964, he entered St Stephen's House, Oxford, an Anglo-Catholic theological college to train for Holy Orders. David Thomas (1813 – 30 December 1894) was a Welsh preacher and publisher of ''The Homilist'', a magazine of liturgical thought. The son of William Thomas of Hopsill, also a preacher, Thomas was born near Tenby, Pembrokeshire and started life in a commercial career, in which he achieved a rapid success.Thomas Rowland Roberts, ''Eminent Welshmen'' (1908), p. 507-508. Thomas was already giving his Sundays to preaching, and was prevailed upon to give up his business prospects in order to devote himself wholly to the ministry. David Walter Thomas (26 October 1829 – 1905) was a Welsh clergyman who was instrumental in the founding of a Welsh church in the Welsh settlement in Argentina. Life Thomas was the eldest son of Evan Thomas, from Lampeter, south Wales. After education in Mumbles, Swansea and at St David's College, Lampeter, Thomas went to Jesus College, Oxford in 1847, obtaining a third-class Bachelor of Arts degree in Literae Humaniores in 1851. He was ordained deacon in 1852 by the Bishop of Oxford, Samuel Wilberforce, and ordained priest the following year by the Bishop of Bangor, Christopher Bethell. His first positions were as curate of Denio and Llanor near Pwllheli, Gwynedd (1853) and chaplain of Tremadog near Porthmadog (1854–1855). Dave Thomas (born May 12, 1965) is an American politician and businessman. He is the current mayor of Springville, Alabama, elected in 2020. A former state legislator, he served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1994 to 2002, representing the 49th district, which includes parts of St. Clair County.
