Cárthach Bán Breathnach is an Irish actor and broadcaster. As an actor, he is known for his roles in the TG4 series ''Aifric'' and the Irish language soap opera ''Ros na Rún''. Bán Breathnach comes from Indreabhán in the Connemara Gaeltacht and is the son of radio broadcaster Seán Bán Breathnach. Career Bán Breathnach played the role of Jimín Ó Gríofa in the Irish language series, ''Aifric''. The first series of ''Aifric'' was screened in 2006. Cárthach also played the role of Aodhán, a secondary school student posing as a doctor, in the soap ''Ros na Rún''. His twin, Léan Bán Breathnach, also acted in both ''Aifric'' and ''Ros na Rún''. Seán Bán Breathnach (born 1949) is an Irish radio and television broadcaster and personality. He broadcasts primarily in the medium of the Irish language. Early life and career Born in the Connemara area of County Galway, Breathnach moved to the United Kingdom as a teenager and worked as a DJ at discos in London. After returning to Ireland, he worked for Radio Éireann in the late 1960s. Broadcasting When he was 19 years old in 1969, Breathnach presented the first Irish language pop music programme on Raidió Éireann. Shortly afterwards he presented his first television show, ''Imeall'', a bilingual folk music show. ''Aifric'' () is an Irish-language TV series aimed at young adults, co-created and written by Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin and co-created and directed by Paul Mercier. The show has won multiple IFTA awards for "Best Children's/Youth Program". The first of the weekly thirteen-part series began broadcasting on 31 October 2006, the date of TG4's tenth anniversary. The series followed the life of Aifric whose wacky family have just moved to a new town in the West of Ireland. The series is set in a fictional village called Ros Na Rún, located near to An Spidéal, and focuses on the domestic and professional lives of its residents. Mícheál Breathnach is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in County Galway, Republic of Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA.
