Cycling has been included in the Summer Youth Olympic Games since their inauguration at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, at which one event was held. Unlike the Summer Olympics, track cycling is not included, while the program features BMX racing, road cycling and mountain bike racing. Cycling at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics was held from August 17 to August 24. The events took place at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center and Laoshan National Forest Park in Nanjing, China. Mountain bike racing entered the Olympic programme at the Atlanta Olympics, followed by BMX racing in 2008 and freestyle BMX in 2021. Cycle sport, Cycling at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 17 October. The events took place at the Parque Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Format For the Youth Olympics instead of competitors competing separately they compete as a team. In the boys' and girls' combined team event two athletes compete together. The event contains five stages; three road events (road race, criterium and time trial) and two cross-country events (cross-country eliminator and short track).
