Jamie Whitmore
Jamie Whitmore Cardenas (born 4 May 1976) is a former American triathlete turned para-cyclist. Whitmore began her sports career competing in the XTERRA Triathlon throughout the 2000s. As a XTERRA triathlete, she won over thirty events and was the XTERRA world champion in 2004. After being diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma in 2008, Whitmore moved to para-cycling in the 2010s and competed in championships held by the Union Cycliste Internationale. Since 2013, Whitmore has won twenty overall medals while competing at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships and UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships. After breaking the C3 world record in time trial and pursuit at the 2014 para-cycling track championships, Whitmore won gold in the road race and pursuit events at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Denise Schindler
Denise Schindler (born 9 November 1985) is a German Paralympic cyclist. Life and career Schindler got into a tram accident when she was 3 years old which resulted in her right leg being amputated below the knee. She began cycling when she was 18. She participated at the Paralympic Games in 2012, where she won a silver medal in the women's road race C1–3 event, and in 2016, where she won a silver medal in the women's road time trial C1–3 event and a bronze medal in the women's road race C1–3 event. Schindler worked with software company Autodesk to develop of a new process for making prosthetics for amputees which could be measured digitally and made using 3D printing. The resulting prosthetic was lighter, cheaper and could take five days to make rather than 10 weeks. She used it at the 2016 Paralympic Games. Allison Jones (athlete)
Allison Jones (born in Amarillo, Texas, on May 12, 1984) is a Paralympic skier and cyclist for the United States of America. She was born with the birth defect proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), which left her without a right femur. She underwent surgery at age 7 months to amputate her right foot, allowing her to more easily wear a prosthetic leg. She received her first prosthetic leg at 9 months of age. Allison moved from Amarillo, TX to Colorado Springs, CO at age 2 and a half. Education She has a mechanical engineering degree from University of Denver where she received the "Pioneer Award". Career At the 2006 Winter Paralympics she won a gold medal for slalom in the standing category. Megan Giglia
Megan Giglia, (born 26 March 1985) is a British Paralympic track cyclist competing in C3 classification events. Giglia came to note as a cyclist during the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships where she won gold medals in the Individual Pursuit and Time Trial events becoming double world champion and setting new world records in both. Personal history Giglia was born in 1985 in Kent, England and spent her early life in Stratford-upon-Avon before moving to Manchester. In 2013 Giglia worked as a multi-sport coach, specialising in teaching rugby and gymnastics. After suffering from several fainting spells at work she sought medical advice that revealed blood in her spinal fluid. Further tests showed a bleed on her brain which required surgery. Simone Kennedy (born 4 January 1994) is an Australian cyclist. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and won a silver medal in the individual pursuit C1-3. She represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Personal Kennedy was born on 4 January 1994 in London, England. She has cerebral palsy which affects the left side of her body.
