The qualification and quarter finals were on 2 August and the semi-finals and finals on 3 August. The Italian team recorded a dominant victory by winning by 4:10 over Switzerland. The Italian team was one of the first teams to use modern carbon-fiber disc wheels, which are now commonly used in time trials. Their time of 1h 58:28 was the fastest time ever recorded over 100 km in a team time trial, and would have been faster without a flat tire that cost them 20 seconds to change the wheel. Artesia Freeway
State Route 91 (SR 91) is a major east–west state highway in the U.S. state of California that serves several regions of the Greater Los Angeles urban area. A freeway throughout its entire length, it officially runs from Vermont Avenue in Gardena, just west of the junction with the Harbor Freeway ( Interstate 110, I-110), east to Riverside at the junction with the Pomona ( SR 60 west of SR 91) and Moreno Valley (SR 60 and I-215 east of SR 91) freeways. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games. These were the first Summer Olympic Games under the IOC presidency of Juan Antonio Samaranch. The 1984 Games were boycotted by a total of fourteen Eastern Bloc countries, including the Soviet Union and East Germany, in response to the American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan; Romania and Yugoslavia were the only Socialist European states that opted to attend the Games. Thierry Marie
Thierry Marie (born 25 June 1963) is a French former cyclist. Marie often performed well in prologue stages: he won the Tour de France prologue three times in his career, and because of that he wore the yellow jersey in those three years, for seven days in total. He also competed in the team time trial event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. On stage six of the 1991 Tour de France Marie rode alone for six hours and 234 km to win the stage and set the record for the longest post-war successful breakaway. Jean-François Bernard
Jean-François Bernard (born 2 May 1962) is a French former professional road bicycle racer. Career He turned professional in 1984 for La Vie Claire, led by Bernard Hinault. He was seen as Hinault’s successor as a winner of stage races from 1986. He competed in the team time trial event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Bernard wore the yellow jersey as leader of the general classification in the 1987 Tour de France and won two stages, both time trials, including one on Mont Ventoux. He finished the race third behind Stephen Roche of Ireland and Pedro Delgado of Spain and was in contention all the way to the end in what still remains among the closest Tours in history. He won three stages in the 1988 Giro d'Italia and led the race, but he crashed in a tunnel, injured his back and abandoned the race. Maarten Ducrot (born 8 April 1958, in Vlissingen) is a Dutch former professional road bicycle racer, and currently a cycling reporter for the Dutch television. Biography Ducrot rode the Tour de France five times, of which he finished four times. In his first Tour in 1985, he won the 9th stage. After the Tour, he was given the combativity award. He also competed in the team time trial event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Ducrot ended his professional cycling career in 1991, after which he worked as organisation advisor. Since 2004, he is a cycling reporter for the Dutch television program Studio Sport. In January 2000, on the Dutch TV-show ''Reporter'', he admitted that he had used cortisone and testosterone, as well as Synacthen, "a very bad medicine", and he still regrets using it.
