Cycling At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Cross-country
The women's cross-country mountain biking event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 27 July 2021 at the Izu MTB Course, Izu, Shizuoka. 38 cyclists from 29 nations were expected to compete, but only 37 did. The race ended in all three medals won by Swiss athletes, the first medal sweep in Olympic cycling history. Background This was the 7th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics since mountain bike cycling was added to the programme in 1996. The reigning Olympic champion was Jenny Rissveds of Sweden, and the reigning (2020) World Champion was Pauline Ferrand-Prévot of France. Jolanda Neff
Jolanda Neff (born 5 January 1993) is a Swiss cyclist, who primarily rides in the cross-country cycling and cyclo-cross disciplines, for the Trek Factory Racing team. She won the gold medal in the women's cross-country event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Career She was the overall winner of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in 2014 and 2015. She was triple Under-23 Mountain Bike World Champion (2012, 2013 and 2014). At the 2017 UCI World Championships in Cairns she became the elite world champion. In June 2015, she won the first gold medal for Switzerland in the women's cross country event at the European Games in Baku. Anne Terpstra (born 5 January 1991 in Zierikzee) is a Dutch cross-country cyclist. She placed 15th in the women's cross-country race at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was on the start list of 2018 Cross-Country European Championships and was not allowed to finish. In 2019, during the Mountain Bike World Cup in Andorra, she won her first World Cup by beating Jolanda Neff in the final lap. Terpstra is the first Dutch female athlete to win a World Cup. Maja Martyna Włoszczowska (Polish pronunciation: ; born 9 November 1983 in Warsaw) is a Polish mountain biker. She is the 2008 and 2016 Olympic silver medalist in cross-country cycling. She is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Career Włoszczowska won the silver medal in mountain biking at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Catharine Pendrel (born September 30, 1980) is a Canadian cross-country mountain biker from Harvey Station, New Brunswick. A member of the Canadian National team since 2004, Pendrel was the world champion in cross-country mountain biking in 2011 and 2014 and the 2007 Pan American Games champion. She is also the current reigning Commonwealth Games champion when she won gold in Glasgow. Additionally, Pendrel is the 2010 World Cup Champion as well as the winner of the 2012 UCI and 2016 World Cup Series. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Haley Batten (born September 19, 1998) is an American cross-country and mountain bike cyclist. From Park City, Utah, Batten studied at Quest University, Canada. Batten won national titles as a junior and another at U23 level, and won a U23 World Cup, and was part of the USA team relay at the 2019 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships where they earned a silver medal in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada. Batten rode for the Clif Pro Team from 2016 to 2019 and Specialized Racing for 2020, and Trinity Racing in 2021. Batten rode to a third-place finish at her first elite World Cup XCO race in Albstadt, Germany.
