Hsiao Mei-yu
Hsiao Mei-yu (; born 7 January 1985 in Taichung, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese road and track bicycle racer. She participated in the 2006 and 2010 Asian Games. In 2010, she won a gold medal at the women's road race event. In the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, she finished over the time limit, and competed in the women's omnium, placing 17th. Hsiao next participated in the 2014 Asian Games and won four medals, including a gold in the women's omnium. In 2016 Hsiao returned to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro to compete in the Cycling Track Women's Omnium event, where she received 64 points to place 17th, the same placement as at the London Olympics four years earlier. Her best omnium event was the time trial where she ranked seventh. She was the only competitor from Taiwan. An omnium (from Latin '' Omni'': of all, belonging to all) is a multiple race event in track cycling. Historically the omnium has had a variety of formats. In recent years, road racing has also adopted the term to describe multi-day races that feature the three primary road race events (time trial, mass start and criterium). History The omnium was re-introduced into the World Championships as a five race track cycling format for men in 2007 and for women in 2009. The omnium was changed in 2010 by the UCI to include the elimination race and the distances of the events were lengthened to favour endurance cyclists. The omnium replaced the individual pursuit, the points race, and the individual time trial at the Summer Olympic Games beginning in 2012. The change received some criticism from cyclist Rebecca Romero, who was left unable to defend her Olympic title. Jupha Somnet ( th, ยุพา สมเนตร, ; born 26 April 1993) is a Malaysian road and track cyclist. She won the silver medal in the points race and the bronze medal in the scratch at the 2016 Asian Cycling Championships. Early life Jupha is the fourth of five siblings growing up in Chuping, Perlis. Jupha was surrounded by people who were into sports. Her aunt was the assistant to coach Muhammad Affendy who coached the Perlis Cycling Team.
