Cycling At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Omnium
The men's cycling omnium at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place at the London Velopark on 4 and 5 August. Lasse Norman Hansen from Denmark won the gold medal. France's Bryan Coquard won silver and Ed Clancy from Great Britain took bronze. Competition format The omnium competition consisted of six events, with a point-for-place system. In case of a tie on points the time trial counts. * Flying lap: an individual time trial over with a "flying start". * Points race: a points race, with scoring for intermediate sprints as well as for lapping the pack. * Elimination race: a "miss-and-out" elimination race, with the last rider in every sprint (each two laps) eliminated. * Individual pursuit: a individual pursuit, with placing based on time. * Scratch race: a scratch race, with all riders competing at once and first across the line winning. * Time trial: a time trial, with two riders (starting opposite the track) riding at once. London Velopark
Lee Valley VeloPark is a cycling centre on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, England. It is owned and managed by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, and it was opened to the public in March 2014. The facility was one of the permanent venues for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Lee Valley VeloPark is at the northern end of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It has a velodrome and BMX racing track, which have been used for the Games, as well as a one-mile (1.6 km) road course and 5 miles (8 km) of mountain bike trails. The park replaces the Eastway Cycle Circuit demolished to make way for it. The facilities built for the Olympics were constructed between 2009 and 2011. Choi Ki Ho (; born 5 May 1991, in Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong cyclist. Choi placed first in the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics Madison in Beijing, and won the 2010 Tour de Berne in Aigle, Switzerland. Gijs Van Hoecke (born 12 November 1991) is a Belgian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . Career In 2011, when he was 19 years old, he was selected to participate at the Track Cycling World Championships, where he won the bronze medal in the Men's omnium. One year later, at the World Championships in Melbourne, he finished ninth in the same event and became Madison World Champion. Walter Fernando Pérez (born 31 January 1975 in San Justo) is an Olympic gold medal-winning racing cyclist from Argentina. Pérez, who joined the Argentine cycling team in 1992, won the Cycling World Championships in 2004 and Men's Madison gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics with teammate Juan Curuchet. Martyn Irvine (born 6 June 1985) is a Northern Ireland-born former cyclist, who competed professionally between 2008 and 2017 for the Pezula Racing, Planet X, , , and teams, and rode at the 2012 Olympic Games. Robert "Bobby" Lea is an American track cyclist. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, he competed in the men's point race, which he did not finish, and the men's madison, where he finished in 16th place. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the men's omnium. Doping case After U.S. Track Nationals in 2015, Lea tested positive for noroxycodone, a metabolite of oxycodone found in Percocet which is a substance on the USADA banned list.
