Cycling At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Points Race
The women's points race at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 18 at the Laoshan Velodrome. This track cycling event consists of a single race. This race is a 25 kilometre, 100 lap race. During the race, cyclists can score points in two ways; the cyclist with the most points at the end of the race wins. The first way to score points is to lap the group. Laoshan Velodrome
The Laoshan Velodrome () is a velodrome that is located in Laoshan, Shijingshan District, Beijing, China. It was built for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The venue was tested during the UCI Track World Cup in December 2007. The velodrome hosted Cycling at the 2008 Summer Olympics, track cycling disciplines during the Olympics. It has a capacity of 6,000 spectators, a 250-metre oval shaped track, and a total land surface of 32,920 square metres. The Laoshan Velodrome will be used for international and national cycling competitions and training after the Olympic Games. The seating capacity may be reduced to 3,500. Verena Jooss
Verena of Zurzach, mostly just called ''Saint Verena'' (c. 260 – c. 320) is an early Christian consecrated virgin and hermit. She is especially venerated in Switzerland, where her cult is attested in Bad Zurzach, the reported place of her burial, from at least the 5th century. She is recognized as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church as well as in the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches. Her feast is on 1 September. Satomi Wadami
is a Japanese amateur road and track cyclist. She won three bronze medals in women's road time trial, individual pursuit, and points race at the Asian Championships (2006 and 2007), and later represented Japan at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Wadami qualified for the Japanese squad in the women's points race at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing by claiming a gold medal and receiving a berth from the UCI "B" World Championships in Cape Town, South Africa. Catherine Cheatley
Catherine Cheatley (née Sell; born 6 April 1983 in Whanganui) is a retired New Zealand professional road and track cyclist. She won two New Zealand championship titles in both road race and individual track pursuit, and later represented her nation New Zealand at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Evelyn Yesenia García Marroquín (born December 29, 1982) is a Salvadoran cycle racer, who specialises as an all-rounder, having won time-trials and mountain stages in the past. She has won the Vuelta a El Salvador on two occasions, the only woman to do so, in 2004 and 2007. Born in Santa Ana, García competed in the Summer Olympic Games in 2004 and 2008, both times in the road race and the track individual pursuit. Wan Yiu Wong
Jamie Wong Wan-Yiu (; born 4 November 1986) is a Hong Kong cyclist. She was second in the Asian Cycling Championships in 2007 in Thailand. A year later she won the points race at the 2007–08 Track Cycling World Cup in Copenhagen. 2010 Asian Games At the 2010 Asian Games, she won the silver medal in the points race in the cycling competition in dramatic fashion, after taking a fall early in the race and fracturing a rib. Wong had to be helped up to the podium to collect her medal and sobbed uncontrollably as she shakily stood for the national anthem, clutching her arm and her knees clearly badly bruised and grazed. Vera Carrara (born 6 April 1980) is an Italian professional racing cyclist. Carrara was born in Alzano Lombardo and joined the G.S. Valoti Arredamenti at the age of seven.
